    Swiss Move to Ban Minarets

Many Swiss think minarets have no place on their urban skylines

Well, gotta agree with the Swiss on this one. Minarets are a symbol of Islamic supreamacism. What these Muslims don't understand is building codes and conformance are not free speech issues and can be regulated by the state.

I'm one of them, they should maybe try to integrate before to build some minarets. I'm tolerant but it's my country and I've seen the consequences of the massive influx of balkanic muslim refugee since the balkan war. Many behave like we should adapt to them. Had they tried to do like this in Thailand they had been killed one by one, but swiss are more a kind of affable people so...

Minerets are a lot prettier than some of the stuff that has ruined the London skyline.

I like minarets. I always liked hearing the call the prayer in the morning. Very soothing. We should have more of them, they look nice too. I always like passing the mosque on the way to Sankampaeng, visited it a couple of times too. Matter of fact I think we should have a minaret and a muezzin on teakdoor, call to prayer 5 times a day. Allow me....

The cow's bells are much more romantic in the early morning, smooth... very smooth.

I don't know why but I love cows, maybe for all the delicious cheeses they allow me to eat.

The proposed minaret was to be 4 meters high. If your culture is intimidated by something like that then your culture is clearly lacking.

There's a couple of Mosque's, an Islamic school and Moslem markets a couple of kilometers from me. Hardly spectacular minarets though.
They don't bother me, and the wife shops at the markets quite often.
I'm far enough from the noise so it is a pleasant distraction early morning rather than a wake up call, which might bug me.
The problems down south seem a long way removed from here.

Switzerland has a long history associated with Calvinism. Which is an understated affection of Protestantism. It only goes to follow how Swiss society might object to any loud religion, especially Islam which makes a point of being loud and in your face.

The church bells are rather "loud" as well...

The Swiss have always been much more reclusive than others in the area, I think of them as a nation of mountain tribes (in a non-derogatory sense).

I like the Catholic encylopaedia's take on Calvinism - "largely obsolete". Way to go RCs

(I think the Swiss don't like minarets because the landscape of Switzerland is honey-combed with vaults full of Jew's gold teeth, any building over 8 meters high would probably be heavy enough to fall through into one of these vaults and then there'd be lots of embarassing explanations to make)

A minaret in Zurich shouldn't be much of a big deal. I would think there's some there already.
A minaret in Heidi/ Cow bells/ Edelweiss country might be.
Switzerland is a nation of Canton's.
