US no longer in position to win Iraq war

It took them quite long to realise this!
WASHINGTON, Feb 12: A joint report by 16 US intelligence agencies warns that America no longer has the option of winning the war in Iraq.

The National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iraq says that President George W. Bush’s dream of creating a stable liberal democracy in Baghdad which is also pro-American is unattainable.

Several major American newspapers have interpreted this consensus judgment of all US intelligence agencies as a declaration of defeat.

The NIE warns of three scenarios that could occur as a result of a complete security breakdown.

This includes the chaotic breaking up of Iraq into an Indian-Pakistan-style partition with Kurds, Shia and Sunnis each claiming a slice of the nation.

The second scenario is the emergence of a strong Shia leader which would prevent partition, but could possibly lead to an undemocratic setup.

The third scenario is the complete breaking down of law and order leading to anarchy and fragmentation of power, a situation where Iraq’s neighbours, particularly Turkey and Iran, may be tempted to intervene in the country’s political system.
    Now they're talking about options!
Divide the country in Pakistan - India style and show the world how intelligent you guys are.

We need to get out. But Chucklenuts wants to invade Iran. What else would the reason be for the additional 21,000 troop surge?

You think 21,000 enough to invade Iran???
The USA would need 210,000 just for starters. There aren't any invasion plans for the near future.

The situation will be allowed to worsen significantly. That's for sure.
By then Billary will be in the white house. She will have to face reality in the ME.

Seems to me Mr. Bush and his rabid followers who've been singing the same old tune for 4 years now may have to face reality before the presidency is over.

Am increasingly convinced the Republicans are going to win 2008, if only they can dig out some mediocre candidate to take on Hillary or Obama.

Sounds sexist/racist but not intended, though it may just be more than an unintended consequence of the dems banking on the electorate being so pissed off with Bush that they can be persuaded to send a woman or a black man to the WH. I doubt that very much, especially when Kennedy surfaces to support one of them.

I think 8 years in the wilderness is not enough.

this is merely a sign that you are becoming increasingly delusional.

this is a republican war....and the electorate is going to watch death, destruction and failure for the next two years. the republicans aren't going to get anywhere near the white house until at least 2016.

Perhaps the goal was never to win the war but merely to destabilize the Middle East in order to justify US military presence in the future. ME not only holds about 2 third of oil reserve but it is also the cheapest to produce. The fact that the Bush Dinasty control a large amount of Oil trading in the world and that George W. Bush happen to be president at the time is, of course, a mere coincidence.

    What?

I thought the Americans were winning all along. Cheney said there was "progress on the ground" two weeks ago.

Wasn't there a guy on an Aircraft carrier and a banner saying "mission completed" some years back, as well.
