erm! can you say "old news"?
Or maybe "stuck in a rut" might be more apropos.
"High centered", "bogged down", "liberal quagmire", "intellectual bankruptcy"??? Michael Moore-itis? It is a pathology you know!

What does Michael Moore got to do with Cheney draft-dodging, or the linked article?

    You on the booze again?

^ how is an article from july 2000 pertinent to anything.
It's just shows to me how stuck in one space many liberals seems to be.
Michael Moore is similarly stuck in the year 2000....along with Al Gore and a host of others boneheads.
Some of them seem still stuck in 1970 like Jihad Jane.

Haven't heard anything from MM for years, btw, but you seem obsessed enough to keep up.

was serving in korea or vietnam a priority for you in the 50s and 60s? if not, why not?

and before you start braying about my military service.....

during the first iraq war i was in college.... but my parents weren't poor so i didn't need to do ROTC. i wasn't for or against that war....in fact i knew very little about it and knew no one who fought in it.
and since desperate military recruiters have increased the age max. to 42, i suppose i'm still eligible to join up.....but i'm not going to. i don't support the war in theory, so i'm under no obligation to do so in practice.

this thread should be about chicken-hawks

Were it not for Cheney being the most hawkish member of the current regime his past would have little meaning.

The US military had essentially won militarily in Vietnam in 1968. The war was subsequently lost in Washington DC largely thanks to people like John Kerry and Hanoi Jane.

    Ah, the backstabbing legend.

i know you're way too old now, but was serving in korea and vietnam one of your priorities in the 50s and 60s?

The Germans could have won WWII if the Japanese hadn't prodded America into acting.

I just can't imagine what Jane Fonda, Michael Moore, or John Kerry have to do with Dick Cheney's 5 avoidances of serving in Vietnam despite his overwhelming support for that war as well.

Thing is, it's old news, water under the bridge, so to say , just like the Bush lies from 2003. The guy was elected 2 times since the article was published.

The public either don't care or has a short memory - unless it concerns some blowjob in the Whitehouse.

I'm unclear what kind of point you are trying to make. I turned 18 in 1974. Shortly after they quit drafting people. Does that make me a draft dodger?
Accusing Dick Cheney of being a draft dodger 30 years after the war is spurious slander in my book.

Because the perception of the war in Iraq still hadn't hit a sizeable majority as going badly until the middle of 2006.

Many people I talk to in person aren't aware of Cheney's own avoidance of service as well.

George W. Bush dodged the draft.

    Dick Cheney dodged the draft.

    Pat Buchanan dodged the draft.

    Rush Limbaugh dodged the draft.

    Newt Gingrich dodged the draft.

    Dan Quayle dodged the draft.

Do I care if they dodged? No.

Do I have disdain for hypocrits? YES.

Piloting an F102 in the National Guard isn't exactly "draft dodging". Just strapping into that bird was hazardous duty.
If fact many guard units were deployed to Vietnam.
The reason Bush never went was that they were phasing out that airplane and the US involvement had peaked in 1968.

either you don't understand the meaning of 'spurious' or 'slander'....or both.

anyway, he got 5 vietnam era deferments....what else could you call it besides 'draft dodging'? in fact earl, what would you call someone who got 5 vietnam era deferments?

Not having the details to how or why he got the deferments I'll reserve comment.
Just getting the deferments isn't indictable IMHO. There are many legitimate reasons for deferment.

It's much like the spurious accusing GWB of being AWOL when in fact he served the National Guard with honor and distinction.

I dodged the draft too. They quit drafting people shortly after I got my draft card. I'm a draft dodger! I participated in the in the May Day riots in 1971. Just another happy stoner. I believed John Kerry's bullshit back then. You needed to be stoned out of your mind to do so! Purple Haze!
