    Hillbilly crime.

This is typical of where I came from.
Police: Man Threatens Woman, Wants Ride To Court - News

Keep in mind some members of my family use to make fun of me for my vocabulary after attending a university. BTW I was the first in my family line to do so.

    Sad really.

Yep, kinda sad. I loved this quote: "Police said they found Anderson hiding under a blanket in a nearby abandoned home."

And then they shot him with a bean bag.

I'd say you got out just in time HB.

If public education can save just one child, it's worth it.

    Shame on you!
Isn't public education financed by money the socialists steal through taxes?

Yes indeed someone has to dig ditches (caddyshack) and it might as well be the poor.

I recall that one of Margaret Thatchers reasons for desroying the British economy was it was too difficult to get domestic help.

Well, I suppose it's all they are good for -natural selection, as was asserted in another thread. If they were any good at anything else, they wouldn't do the jobs noone else wants to get.

Some basic education is a good investment, though, people learn to behave and know their place. Serving in the army under conscription will prepare youngsters further for their role in employment later in life.

But, what is really needed is better policing. With the PC-crowd in charge, criminals have no reason to obey the law or fear punishment. Increasing police powers and introducing the death penalty even for minor crimes is the solution.

Gentlemen, what I meant is that in this case, it's true. The left loves to waste millions and when questioned they hold up one child and say how could you be so cruel?!! Well maybe the money could be more wisely spent saving thousands of children instead.

I don't consider funding education a waste of taxpayer's money. But I do believe the money is not being well spent. Besides the economic advantages of educating our youth, schools and universiteis are watering holes where people from different backgrounds gather to interact. When we get to know each other we're more likely to treat each other like something other than objects to be used. It's basic common sense to build a successful society.

I don't have to be a socialist to believe in public schools. I have a natural sense of community. It doesn't need to be imposed upon me. Socialism is external pressure for those who never internalized compassion for others. Public education is not a thought exclusive to the socialist. It's common sense and a sense of community. It doesn't require collective thought and collectivism. In a selfish pursuit of hedonism, if you relinquish your civic duty to a wasteful government, then shame on you.

That's nothing to do with "the left", this trait can be found throughout the politcal spectrum.

Perhaps, yes, it does pressurise others to share. Fact is, many people simply care about themselves, public services cannot run on voluntary or arbitrary contributions.

Where does this strange remark come from? One could say it is the rich who read hedonistic lifestyles in extravagance, well, they certainly have the means for it.

What civic duty are you talking about? You just agreed yourself that public education financed with taxes is a good thing.

I keep hearing from yank conservatives/libertarians that taxes are "stolen" from them to finace public services. Now that sounds to me like they want to avoid their civic duties to put funds into the pot to maintain the community they are part of.

One doesn't need to be extravagent to be hedonistic. If you relinquish your civic duty to a wasteful government so that you may better selfishly pursue hedonism, then shame on you. "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."
