    Hotel Recommendations

Hi Phuket experts, I'm looking for a family friendly hotel in Phuket within decent distance to Thanyapura Sports Resort but also near a nice beach, restaurants and a pool.

People have mentioned Mai Khao and Nai Yang, but any hotel names you could recommend for a reasonable price?

Not this place that is 1500thb a night

I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

Have you missed a 0 there? Surely you are not complaining about $30 a night?

OK, you haven't mentioned potential dates, and of course we're pretty close to getting into the premium/high season scenario. Thanyapura is essentially in the centre of the island, and to the east whilst pleasant, there's no beaches. On the west, Nai Thon is closest, with the advantage of being near the airport also (south). Decent beach, though swimming in the sea any time west coast Phuket up until December/January is to be avoided (rips/drownings). A few local style restaurants in Nai Thon, though pretty much local fayre, lacking international menus. Not sure if there's a 7/11 or Family Mart, but there will be some near the airport.

Other thing to be aware of, Nai Thon is pretty much Moscow by the Sea, very popular with Russians, which doesn't give me a problem but then again I don't go there. Looking at Google Maps, there are a few options, but you would need to do more research.

That north western part of Phuket is very much the high end of the accommodation market, from Bang Tao/Laguna through to MaiKhao.

If you want a quiet place, with some real local seafood places, albeit with no beach, this might suit: https://laemsairesort-bke.zoombookdi...e-pay&adType=0

Basic, but good location. Very quiet in scenic area, one of my coffee stops whilst cycling. Some international restaurts in the Pa Klok area, but you'd need transport. Some great boat tours leave from Laem Sai pier, including cave canoe trips (recommended). Owner very pleasant, speaks reasonable English. As far removed from most peoples perception of Phuket as you could possibly get. Laem Sai resort in on a quiet road that is well used by people from Thanyapura (cycling/triathlon etc).

Sailed straight past you that one did. That 0 is the third digit missing off your IQ.

Armstrong, i'd not worry too much about what restos are near your hotel as long as you can order Grab from PAGs

Good Info PAG. My wife and I do not travel much to Phuket anymore. It's just not like it used to be. We did a lot during Covid and man was it outstanding. Top rooms for low price, exclusive resorts and lots of perks. I think your Little Moscow is a fair overview currently. My wife reads a lot reviews on Thai sites and the Thai folks complain about the same thing on the Russian invasion.

Although the Russian presence is noticeable, especially at shopping malls throughout the island, the concentrations in places like Nai Yang, Nai Harn and Rawai is particularly so. The demand in these areas has pushed both short and long term rental and hotel prices up more than the rest of the island.

In truth, Russians are not a problem for locals, business is business, and any baht is welcome.

Absolutely. Business is business. I like that my wife had the inside Thai input track. Many Thai's complain about rude foreigners, especially at resorts. I can see that happening as I have routinely seen in it Pattaya when I travel to Chonburi for work.

While the Covid pandemic was devastating, living here and taking trips to Phuket was really quite relaxing. One could stay in exclusive resorts for a fraction of the cost.

Now like any Tourist location here, business is back up and all the associated plus and minuses.

Look forward to Armstrongs trip review.

I used to hang out in kata/ Karon with forays into patong but like pag said the sea could be pretty wild for swimming. Back then I was more into drinking and womanising and didn't go swimming anyway, plenty of options for hotels though

30 years ago the place to head to for a quiet few days at the beach was Kata.

Looks like things have changed, and it's quite heavily developed now.

Back then there were about half a dozen places to stay.

It was quiet enough for me to be connect 4 top dog for two days running.

Oh look, middle aged juvenile posting after me a bit too often, adding eff all and subtracting the humour.

One search criteria was reasonable proximity to Thanyapura, which is in the central northern half of the island, with Kata/Karon not falling within that remit.

No way he could handle all that excitement after winning at Connect 4 two nights in a row.
