Re registering you home address at Phuket immigation

There has been a lot of posts recently on the Dickheads forum about people being fined for not re reporting their address if they travel overseas or within Thailand and stopping in paid accommodation

From my own experience in dealing with Phuket immigration if you fill in your current address on your arrivals card when returning from overseas this is reporting your address to immigration, you are just doing it at the airport immigration instead of Phuket town and i have not been asking or told to re register my address when doing my 90 day report

When traveling within Thailand my Thai wife registers at any accommodation except one time when i booked recently and paid with my credit card over the web, We only stopped one night and since your staying there only has to be reported within 24 hours no laws were broken by anyone when my stay was not reported and my permanent address remained the same in Phuket at immigration

Accommodation places are usually quite happy not to have to report your staying there for a short period anyway it saves a lot of paperwork and other things

There has been discussion on here on this subject and we were told by posters that there is no legal requirement for you or me to report a change of address rather it is up to the owner of the property to report that you are staying there.

However I have changed my residential address 3 times in recent years and each time I have reported that change to immigration taking along the document filled out by the home owner.

The office I report to requires me to do this and requires a copy of the rental agreement, a copy of the owners ID card, a copy of the owners house book and a map of the location of the house these all have to be signed by the owner and by me.

This is for a permanent residential address, whether this is an individual immigration office thing or general law I dont know but it is not a big thing and I would say it is as well to do it for it could save problems for you later.

As for traveling we usually camp in national parks and can be away from home for over a month at a time and I have never told immigration we will be traveling or where we are likely to be and have never had a problem and I cant see a national park reporting to immigration we are there.

There are probably big hotels that do report foreigners staying there, for their own protection, but I doubt most small places do.

They are allowed to do it online after they register with immigration.

I bought the property, the chanote is in my wife's name and i have a 30 year lease as it was purchased before we were legally married
I have only registered my address once so far and my wife just signed the form for owner of the residence where a alien (me) has stayed after i filled it out and a copy of her Thai ID card
Never had a rental agreement and was not asked for a copy of one, but i was told by a expat i know that he new someone who was fined 20K baht for not having the registration of their residence in Thailand up to date, from what i have read on the news the fine is 2K baht not 20K
It seems different immigration offices and officers have different opinions about the law which was originally brought in for commercial accommodation premises, up to about 2 years ago i had never registered my address, i have met quite a few people who are confuse about this law and the re reporting requirements like me so i posted my personal experience with Immigration, i was expecting to have to pay a 2K baht fine to immigration when i did my 90 day report recently but they did not fine me
I know 2 expats that thought they would be fined like me for not re reporting their permanent home address within 24 hours when they do their 90 day report
Even different officers in The Phuket town immigration and one volunteer who works there cannot agree about when you have to re register your address

The online registration service i Phuket does not usually work so people who have tried to use it say, i just go to their office so i know everything is registered and done properly, have plenty of time to do it
