There was another category. I think this one was for a lady.

Pre-covid, Baguio held the Panagbenga Flower Festival during late February. For 3 years now, the festival hasn't been held. In Feb 2020, covid cases were already spreading in China and S. Korea, so the nat'l govt didn't allow festivals. It also wasn't allowed this year due to the omicron surge in late January (here). With the number of tourists that I've seen, I'm glad that the tourism sector is slowly recovering in Baguio.

In the late afternoon, I visited the ili-likha artist village. ("likha" means to create). This artist village is the brainchild of film director & artist Eric de Guia, who was awarded National Artist in 2018. I learned about this artist village from one of those list of sites to see.

It's artsy and may not be for everybody, but I enjoyed browsing through their stuff.
There's a cafe inside
Different kinds of rice (grown in the mountains)
I bought veg from this stall. I saw that they had the pointed lemons ("California" lemons - I don't know how to call them - they're yellow & have tapered ends). Didn't take a pic. I think in PH, those lemons only grow in Baguio & surrounds (highlands).
I don't know if you have this in Thailand (haven't seen it, but it probably wasn't in season when I visited). We call it "siniguelas" but other names are ceriguela, ciruela, mombin or hog plum (Spondias purpurea), according to Google.
The longgan fruits are imported (usually from China).
^some chooks & fish
Walked up the hill to SM Baguio. Saw this queue of people, waiting for taxis.
Went to the food court for dinner. I wanted to get food from this stall (I've eaten here before), but they didn't have the dish that I was looking for, which is a common dish in the north.
^Ilocos region is in NW of Luzon, where the Marcos clan is from.
More Filipino food
^on the left is Bicol express, a dish from the Bicol region (SW of Luzon), made with pork, green beans, coconut milk & shrimp paste. On the right is pork sisig.
^On the left is kare-kare, pork or beef cooked in peanut sauce/ stew. On the right is lechon paksiw, usually pork belly deep fried then cooked in a sweer sour sauce.
But I didn't eat any of those dishes, since I can buy those in the lowlands (or cook them). I wanted something regional. This dish also reminds me of my dad, since I first ate it on a trip to Baguio with him & my sister when I was ~10 years old. (RIP, dad).
I got this dish - pinapaitan or papaitan. (Pait = bitter). The soup is a bit bitter and it's seasoned with salt, onion, garlic, ginger, black pepper. It's a dish common in this region (the north).
Dish came with 2 cups of rice
The money shot
^it's tripe & innards again, but the soup is different
Y'all can take the piss again, I won't mind.
After dinner, it was off to the bus station for the night trip. Only a few passengers were at the station (effect of covid & inflation, maybe).
Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by this bus company. I just like their service when heading up north. One can also buy their tickets online (which is not available for other bus companies).

This was my costume for the ride. Those night buses are cold.
Back to the station in Cubao, Quezon City (in Metro Manila). Took around 4 hours. Bus was only ~1/3 full. Company must be operating at a loss.
This concludes my trip report. I'm back in the lowlands where daytime temps are ~35 degrees C. The Weather Bureau has declared that the rainy season has officially started. It has rained every afternoon since I got back, so the evenings are blessedly cooler. Cheers!
