^ You now what I was saying!
Last night I caught a nice pla nin. It wasn't the pla duuk the wife was hoping for, but a fine Birthday present nonetheless, I reckon. I've hidden it at the back of the fridge for a surprise tomorrow. I think that a present like this takes a lot more thought than just going down to some gold shop and buying a trinket that ens up being locked away.
Today I completed 'Pond Henge'.
Edmond, if you're serious about buying some tools then this little Bosch is superb. I have a big plug in to the mains Bosch drill for heavy duty drilling and that has served well for over 15 years now, and still going, just. This little rechargeable Bosch I use for light drilling and as a screwdriver. It even has a torch if you want to drill at night.
Anyway, shuttering being dismantled...
And removed...
The top of the extreme port side stool came off some time ago, so that needed fixing.
First, off with the old cement.
And then some work on the stool top. I made some grooves for the cement to key onto, and also decided to remove part of the stone. The reason this top has constantly come off is that the top is too big and gives a lot of leverage when you sit down.
I tried to grind the end off at a natural angle.
But soon got bored... so smacked it with a hammer...
... with the predictable result.
This Khao Yai limestone is crystalline and heavily cleaved, so as soon as I smacked it one it just split along a cleavage plane. Who wants a flat stool-top anyway?
The finishing touches...
And voila!
Korat's very own 'Pond Henge'.
I may just Christen it tonight... although Christening a new table these days is very different to 20 years ago... if you know what I mean.
Tonight it will be Christened with a bottle of Leo and hopefully another pla nin.
I hope to find a patch of table top flat enough to balance a bottle of Leo without it toppling over.
And I may have to take a cushion! But I'm sure it will be fun, nonetheless.
Another project successfully completed. I can't guarantee that 'Pond Henge' will last as long as its namesake at Salisbury, but if this thread is still going in 5000 years we will find out!
And if the wife ain't happy with her pla nin tomorrow... I'll give her 'Pond Henge' for her Birthday!

Nice but it still need the artificial grass
Yeah... it'll take some shaping around all the rocks.
The daughter's school has this artificial grass stuff for their sports field and she's constantly getting these little black rubber cylinder bits caught up in her PE kit. I'm not a fan, to be honest.
Maybe I should paint it?
^ Try telling Anna that...
I think Mendy should just do a Pyramid. This way he has Tomb in place.
I see a lot of stubbed toes on that slab edge unless dirt is filled or some more cement is added with a slope.
I don't really do 'amusing things' these days Cyrille, I've been married too long for that kind of thing.
I quite like Stumpy's idea of turning it into a tomb for the wife, although I've heard that it's traditional to wait for them to die first before you stick 'em in.
Stumpy, you seriously think that any human will ever use it? It'll be like many other beautiful looking things in Thailand... nice to look at but you don't actually sit on it. No, this will just be a 'feature' to look at.
There's no TV within line of sight, so that rules the wife out and to be fair to Jess, she doesn't really want to sit on the most uncomfortable stools in Isaan (and there's a lot of competition for that slot), with a table you can't even put a drink down on, when she could be playing online with her friends in the house with no flies and fan to keep cool.
No... this will never be used but I think it looks nice and it gave me something to do. Maybe I should start a new thread... 'Pointless Projects in Isaan'?
It was raining tonight so I didn't get to Christen it... either in the 'Traditional' pre-marriage manner, or even just with a glass of Leo.
The dogs think it's great, though!
And the wife can bollocks, she ain't getting it for her Birthday tomorrow. She's pissed me off too much today... she can have that pla nin in the fridge. I wish I'd left it out in the sun now.
Mendy, you should have wrote her name in the concrete and gifted Pond Henge to her. She'll never sit there and it gets you off the hook for a present.
^^^ Bollocks to you.
^^ Bollocks to you as well.
^ And bollocks to you.
Bollocks for everyone!!!!!!!!!! Sharing is caring!
Can't see that cement starved ...creation surviving the first frost
Young man, you could always attack the top of the ............ER............TABLE ? with an angle grinder and a cupstone and grind it to something resembling flat.
well flat enough to hold a beverage anyway.
Green owed.
The new venue was duly Christened tonight.
I sat alone apart from Yogi... he's a great dog and sticks with his master through thick and thin. The others realised that the sala has a roof and is a much better option in the rain. It also has a fan and so will be a better option in the heat as well.
But anyway, I've built the thing now...
Great stuff mate. Well done!
^ Thank you mate, one day we can maybe share a cold one here.
You can sit at 'Pond Henge' if you like, but I'll be in the sala!
