growing trees in burirum

Does anyone out there have any experience in growing rubber and cashew trees in Burirum area or know of any up to date web sites on this.

i've got 35 rai of land just outside of buriram which i planted with rubber trees just over a year ago, you can grow them no problem. If you have a look in the farming forum of that other web-site there are quite a few good links about rubber trees.

I'm getting my fatherinlaw to look around Lahan Sai for some land. I was thinking 20 to 40 rai. Buriramboy any idea what I would expect to pay.

i can only speak for the area i know, which is satuk, not too far from buriram airport, and out in the villages there, paddy fields go for about 20,000-30,000 baht a rai.

Arent the rubber trees a lot of work up here? lots of care for a while due to the sporatic rains? i planted about two rai of eucalyptus today.

I've also wondered about eucalyptus. Is there a market for it? With rubber I believe that you can start collecting the rubber after about 3 years, but what are the returns or money in the bank per rai???
It's been suggested to me that I can get a fuc in big hole dug for about 30,000 and irrigate when needed. Not sure if this is crap and also if the water is going to evaporate.

you'll have to wait a bit longer than 3 years before you start milking your rubber trees, between 6 and 7 years is the norm. If you start tapping them any earlier you will lose a lot of potential revenue, also you have to let the trees rest for 3 months of the year, you will only get an income for 9 months every year.
So a couple of negatives, no income for 6-7 years and then only for 9 months of the year, on the plus side though, if you can wait 7 years then you will have an income for the next 15 years and also when the trees are 20-25 years old you have the lumber value, currently about 100,000 baht per rai.
IMO if you can afford to wait 6-7 years then rubber can be a decent investment, providing you have people to take care of the land who know what they are doing. If you want a quicker return, try palm oil.

yeah, the water in the hole will go eventually especially if your using it all teh time. we have massive holes where i am and they are dry in the seasons that you need the water. and then you need to get the pump to pump the water out and such. i thought the rubber trees began to yeild at 7 or 8 years. the eucalyptus is very easy. if you buy it they are about1-2 baht per small seeding. my wife actually starts her own. i think you can harvest the tree after 3-4 years. but you can grow it really big and build with it as well. this is what i have heard from the locals. i'll post some pics later.

Did you take a soil sample to find your ph and salt count as well as a potash and phousferous count? You may want to know these things to give suplements to your soil for a high yield and quiker harvest time. The pay off will reflect the work put into the soil.
