    Gday from another bloody Aussie

    Hi all
Names Mike from Fremantle in W.A.
Found this and a couple of other boards during searches for sites oriented towards cruising sailors in S.E. Asia.
Am currentlly building a cat with the intention of extended cruising in Asia and Pacific. Expect to depart here early 2008.
Don't have a lot of experience in LOS, just a couple of week long visits about 6 years ago on my way to Saigon where I have lived intermittantly.
From what I have read here there are a lot of similarities in the customs and attitudes, to be expected I suppose as they are both Buddhist. Married a woman in Saigon and we returned to Aus but she couldn't cope with the culture here and went a little ferral. I ended up with total custody of our daughter, now four.
I have read there is a large group of sailors oscilating between LOS and Langkawi. I suppose some of them must haunt a board somewhere, has anyone come across any.

    Hi Mike,

I lived by The Yacht Haven, Phuket for about two years working on yachts. I don't know of any boards for yachties as such but PM me if you have any specific questions. I'm a sailor and from Perth too although I now work on Superyachts ($$).

Watch out you don't do like so many others and get here as part of a large trip only to stay years in Thailand!

A four day cuise every week with a buncha whinnig tourists??? Great lifestyle.

Welcome to the board Whimsy. Never cruised the waters here, but lived aboard in the Pac NW for 18 months. probably a little different, eh? Knocked around boatyards all over the Bay area. Wooden boats were a passion Single hulled boats, deep keels. But on the water life is good (long as you ain;t gotta feed them tourists)

    thanks everybody

Bung - I don't have any specific plan other than head north untill we bang into Thailand then turn right. What happens after that is up to the gods and my whims at that time, hence the name of the boat - Whimsical. Years in Thailand may be ok as long as I am enjoying myself. I would like to eventually get to the pacific islands though. I am only 50 (only?) so I hope I have plenty of time.

Friscofrankie - Don't need an income so the tourists can p off.

^I think there are sailing boards. I have a friend who lives in Bangkok and keeps his boat in Langkawi, getting it ready to sail back to Canada.

I will find out where he posts for info and stuff.
