    stevieo....new guy

Hi people. Kind of fell on this site while looking for something else, and as I recently bought a small condo in Pattaya, I may be useful for anyone considering the same venture. I have spent much of last few years travelling as far and wide as the USA, Serbia, India, and Asia (Thailand and Cambodia)
Buying a place in Pattaya was originally for me and my Jomtien based lover. As in many cases I guess, some home truths came to fruition just before we were to sign the papers and I signed them myself. We are no more...My fondness of the area however, and other ex-pats I met there, prompted me to go ahead with the purchase.
By the way....my name is Steve and I hail in a small town/village on the borders of Heathrow Airport, London. As I write this message I am currently in hospital in West London recovering from a lengthy jaw bone graft operation and am in heaps of pain and my neck is held in place from ear to ear with over thirty staples......when I get ovet the worst of it i,ll be back to Thailand for some serious recovery

My jaw?.....well its a bit long and complicated but here goes! In 2003 I was diagnosed with neck cancer....just unlucky I Guess. I had to have a few months of pretty gruelling Radiotherapy treatment, but it left me inherent side effects such as tightened muscles around the shoulders and jawline, and some mouth dryness and a few loose teeth to pull out. In all fairness it took me almost two years to come to terms with all that....but I turned the corner and moved on.
Unbeknown to me is that my jawbone had been weakened from the Radiotherapy and it just needed a knock there to cause problems. The knock came by way of a car accident in 2006 which I was lucky to get out of in one piece....but I took a hefty knock in the face from the door. This caused a fracture that I had checked out and a small plate was fitted it keep it intact.
However, because of the aforementioned weakness, that fractured mandible started crumbling.....I never really noticed and had been on the road for a good three years and it was rarely thought of.
Just before Christmas I was working for the local council to save extra money for my planned winter trip when my jaw suddenly snapped like a twig. The guy next me even heard it go.....awful. so fast forward to today.......and i've had the operation that has replaced my lower right mandible with a bone graft taken from my left leg.....resulting in 32 staples in my neck, 40 staples in my left leg and months and months of recovery and physio to get through all this.
As and when I get back to Thailand will depend on how long the recovery process takes to see out the worst of it. At the moment i'm thinking late June, and then I tried to be more realistic and think October maybe, which might make more sense as i'll stay out for six months or so and take in Songkran next April before coming back to the UK
    Phew!!!

Sorry to hear about the Big C and all complications.
I've done the radiotherapy gig and it's not fun. There's only a few TD members I would wish it apon.
How did you lose your lover? I think I can guess but I'm not going to speculate.
Anyhow good luck and a speedy recovery, you will find a good deal of support within this forum.
Yeah we argue like cat and dog but it's all in fun...Mainly!

Thanks guys. I have a Nirun Condo, central Pattaya.....near Carrefour.
I'll let you know how i'm progressing through this thread though that may take a few months. Meanwhile ...i'll be popping up elsewhere on the site when something takes my interest.
I tried to add a thread in the sales/lettings forum about a dodgy real estate office in Pattaya but it didn't get posted.....touched a nerve maybe...oh well......never mind.
