I'm an American happily married to a Filipina and living in Cebu for 4 years now. I love it here, but one downside to the Philippines is that its cut off from the continent. Traveling to Bangkok with my wife typically costs about 7 to 8 hundred USD round trip. I'm strongly considering the idea of spending 4 to 6 months of the year in Thailand and the rest in Cebu, so I'm scouring this forum for some insider info on the topic. I know its a pain in the butt to try and stay permanently, and it really seems like a royal pain to do the monthly visa runs.
I may check out some of the other options like Hong Kong or mainland China, but I like the idea of setting up a place in Thailand the most. My hope is to find some cheap village not too far from Bangkok or the non-tourist trap beaches and explore the country bit by bit on my own motorcycle. Seems like a great place to go see other parts of Asia over trying to fly from Cebu.
Anyway, thanks for all your info on the forum to date and I look forward to exchanging ideas in the future.
