    Thumbs down Where Next?

I normally visit Pattaya twice a year, with my partner and 2 kids. I know Pattaya is maybe not the best family destinantion in the world but over the last 10 to 12 years we have grown to love it. We absolutely enjoy every second we spend in Thailand. Retirement there has also been discussed, but that's another 15-20 years down the line.

Our dilemma is where to visit next! Pattaya has, what we feel, a great infrasructure, with many varied restaurants and shopping experiences. We also manage to have some excellent days out at Siracha Tiger Zoo, Nong Nooch and the like. We fancy trying somewhere new...Phuket always looks lovely but a bit spread out and I would hate to be at the mercy of a group of 5* Hotels as my only source of entertainment and dining. Has anyone experience of Hua Hin or somewhere similar? Maybe Pattaya has everything we are looking for...but I cant help but feel we are missing a large part of Thailand.

Maybe a twin centre would suit us best...with Pats being the second week. (my brother lives and works in the town...so couldn't visit Thailand without seeing him). Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

What age are the kids and what do they like to do? In the end, keeping them busy and happy is the key to your own enjoyment.

I happen to like the area around Cha Am and Hua Hin. Hua Hin has got plenty of interesting dining and shopping. There are several national parks just a day trip away. Granted, the beach ain't great, but I don't think much of the beach at Pattaya either.

You might think of doing your regular Pattaya thing with a few days at Koh Chang for some low-key relaxation.

The time of year matters as well. When will you be coming?

Well if you like Patters then the only other destinations that are big enough for you would be Phuket,Samui,HuaHin and maybe Krabi.

Go south of Hua Hin (only a little way).

The Chom View is perfect. Good facilities, pools, rooms & beach and still easy to get to and from town.

Nah, you'd be better off staying in Pattaya, less risk of disappointment that way.

Thanks for the replies. The kids, both girls are 11 and 15...they enjoy playing pool...swimming, usually at the hotel and eating out. They also love the shopping and bartering side of things. Night times is usually a meal somewhere followed by pool or light entertainment. The youngest one has managed to get up to sing with the band in the blues factory a couple of times, one of the few enclosed bars that allows kids. We usually go in October...to tie in with scottish school holidays and then either Feb to April again. We did April this year....just catching the start of Songkran.....once was enough.....unless I managed to get hold of some sort of souper soaker with a 10 gallon tank. Looks like it is either Hua Hin or Phuket then if we want a change.

^I think they would enjoy Hua Hin. There is a bit of shopping there and girls that age like to shop (well, girls of any age).

If you stay right in town, you can get a reasonably priced guesthouse with a pool and I find the beach ok. Not the beach with the piers, the other one.

It seems you prefer beaches. If you think about somewhere not busy, old style, natural and cheap, don't forget Ayuttaya. It's quite nice there.
