I'm guar another newbie to the site. I'm planning on establishing roots here in 5 months. Simi-retired, looking to roost in Pattaya near the beach or in Korat. I don't know which at the moment.

I just spent 3 weeks looking three areas over Phuket, Pattaya and Korat. I am certainly interested in any inputs anyone would have on the Pros and Cons of renting versus buying?

Can a farang actually buy a house (not Condo) in Thailand without a thai wife? wifes can be expensive and painful.

I have thai friends in Korat. And i liked the area around the Royal Thai Air base. it has a nice lake. And I thought of buying if I stay long term, 5-10 years.

I think I might get tired of Pattya and it's night life. I have to admit it wouldn't be for a while.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes perhaps my avatar is saying Mwah or perhaps its just going thru the motions after last nights extra spicey som tum or whatever.

I am presently living on a little farm (about 50 rai) just south of Bangkok in the Samut Sakhon province. SS, is a shitehole, as is Bangkok and alot of other areas here......but it will do for now. I spend a fair bit of time travelling around. Its all good, I only complain 23 hours a day.
