    Buying a vehicle

    Hello All
I have been married, almost happily, to a Thai lady for over 37 years and intend to retire soon in England.
We purchased a house earlier in the year in Thailand and will use it for about four minths a year during the English winter.
I will be coming over to Thailand in November and I want to buy a good second hand vehicle to use for trips around the country.
I am seeking advice as to the best way to go about this, should I look to buy from an expat or from a local car sales.
Our house is about 80 miles west of Bangkok.
    All advise will be appreciated.

    Regards
    Francis

Don't buy a car, rent one. (8 months sitting idle in a garage, big problems await you)
No headaches regarding servicing the vehicle, no insurance problems/ registration hassles and the car will be ready and upon your return.
13-15 thousand Baht per month and if you like PM me and I can put you in touch with a reputable company.

He cant pm you because he needs something like 20 posts or something like that. I think he can recieve them though so go ahead and send it....
13-15 K per month sounds cheap, what car would that money get you?

Something decent and roadworthy and about 5 years old. If Francis wishes he can google Qcars Thailand and John is the guy to speak too if he wishes to call that company direct.

I really feel, (and for 4 months of the year here) a rental is his best option

Buy a car and then sell after 4 months. That way enjoy cost free motoring. Car rental is false economy

Maybe he doesn't want the hassle?

I agree with LT that QCars are his best bet.

Agreeable if he does not want the hassle. Then again he is retired and will have time on his hands

    I question that statement.
I lived in England for over 40 years and the winters were always 10 months long

I can confirm that John is a top guy...based in Pattaya...honest as the day's long and he'll certainly take care of you...

However, my understanding is that Q cars Bangkok has folded following Hatch's demise... they have been selling their stock as leases expire and not renewing leases or making any new ones...
