It is but parts of SE Asia are not that cheap. Depends on your lifestyle. I note you say you live a simple life. Depending on how simple you can live comfortably in parts of Thailand for 40k baht. I have lived all over SE Asia and although Thailand has been good for me and life is great as a retiree, if I wasn't married to a Thai and have some fluency in Thai, I would be looking to settle in Philippines. Overall cost, climate, and general quality of life about the same without the language issue.

I haven't been there, but will go there to investigate. As for Now, I'm focusing on Thailand, but that can change.
