When I brought my two dogs to Thailand, about six years ago, it took perhaps 10 minutes to get them through customs. The officer took a look at the papers, which were in order, matched them up with the dogs and that was that. The officers were pleasant and gave me a couple of brochures of nearby hotels which accepted pets.

My veterinarian in the U.S., though a countryside vet, had experience with exporting livestock and knew all the forms needed. Having the correct paperwork is the key.

When my wife brought over her monster Tomcat several years ago it was no bother either. Just have the forms filled out at your end, mosey over to the office there at Swampy and it's a done-deal within ten minutes.

Well 48 hrs after the event I have calmed down some what and able to review this fiasco.I would like to make it crystal clear all paperwork from my end was correct no oversight on any form or requirement.
After 9 hrs of total frustration, our dog was finally released into my care, only because I refused to go away despite attempts to move me on and 'come back monday' Talked to 'officer' at animal quarantine office and then directed away from terminal to cargo area 5mins away Spent 3hrs there dealing with "face" told to return to main terminal and original'officer'stamps document .and accepts100 baht payment
Thinking this is the final hoop,I head back to cargo to be told duty vet has to inspect paperwork, which he promptly rejected, come back Monday .buy this time I decide that this is enough b......t and what about dogs welfare ,eventually allowed to see dog ,feed and change water, but will not release until Monday. The tipping point came when eventually some one finally realised I was not going to accept this and would not go away, many sublime offers to bribe dog through also!
Anyway the old bloke is out and adjusting to the heat, just can not get over the complete incompetence of these people, been told it was time of my flight that caused the problem, apparently quarantine shuts down fri night to Monday morn ,I cant work that one out.
I was going to import a bitch to show and breed from ,will have to rethink that one! Still it was an experience, although not an enjoyable one,can only get better now

^ Terrible. It's stress enough to fly with a dog and worry about it being in the hold, then have to go through that. Glad to hear you both made home together and got some rest.

Guess it comes to when and where you come in with an animal.

My dogs flew as excess baggage and were delivered to the terminal right at the quarantine office. Was not much running around do be done.

Pretty much what happened to me. There is a con game which involves the customs people and the airport vet. Cost me thousands in black money to get mine out, and they were sat in their boxes, at a 25 degree angle because they had each box half on half off a pallet, all of them in the most horrific situation. I had all the paper work, but yet the first excuse they came up with was that the vet had gone home at 2.30pm when he was supposed to be there until 4.30. I was there at 3pm. Then they claimed spelling mistakes on one of the documents and so it went on. We finally got them out at 10pm with a dent in my wallet, and my mate who was with me having had a knife pulled on him by an "agent" that the Thai Air cargo office was in cahoots with. In hindsight the experience set me up well to know what to expect from the criminals in uniform in this damned country.
