can be a problem if you are entering on a tourist visa. Best way around this is to get a full fare flight (cheapest you can find) outside of China within the time frame of your visa, that you then cancel and get the refund.

You didn't say what passport you hold as that is crucial

You can get very cheap advance tickets around $100+taxes etc from Chengdu to KL or from Hanzhou to C Mai etc
From JHG Banna airport in very south of Yunna is only an hour to Laos but not the cheapst exit may find a ticket to Honkers or Macau or Tawan will do the trick if you have a Uk passport as these have visa free entry.

Hangzhou Guilin,Dali and SW are ok ish but if you have sampled LOS can see few reasons to lurk in the middle diddle.
