A smelt is a osmeriforme marine fish . It is between 7 and 15 cm. Its diet consists of small crustaceans and larger can feed on small fish. He lives at sea and sometimes goes estuaries. Formerly much fished for its fine fragrance and delicate flesh, the fishery is now highly regulated.
Recognizes two species Osmerus mordax in North America and Europe Osmerus eperlanus. It is a fish that goes rivers to spawn.
