    Hello fellow Newbies ..

Like everyone here I have just joined the Forum to get more information about the country, people and culture that I adore.
I initially went with a group of guys to play golf around the Chonburi area, but now the golf has become less important to learning about the country and its people.
I have travelled to most regions of Thailand over the last 10 years and I would love to retire there at some stage. Family commitments and cold feet are preventing me from doing so far. I read some real horror stories of failure and expats are not always forthcoming to herald their success.

I am acutely aware of the different culture, weather, mind set as well as restrictions on working and the complex entry and visa requirements

Would love to hear from anyone in the same predicament or has been through similar.

    Regards

    Hi there.

Be prepared to be laughed at, scolded and ridiculed.

It's not that bad really but this place really should come with a users manual.

    Enjoy.

Welcome to TD, Credaf. We are a nice bunch, in general, but grow a thick skin and always have your sense of humour handy - rules that are good for living in Thailand, too.

    Where are you from?

OK, but I do not understand----

You say ACUTELY aware of a different culture. What have you noticed to be acutely awareable? Nothing here really and drastically hit me between the eyes like a golden BB, as G. Patton once said.

In fact, when I got here, I did not acutely see very much different.

What I would say is that I found just more of the same, but more so, and better so.
Whatever I left that was very good, then I found more of it hear.
And nothing bad did I find here, only good.
    EXCEPT, E X C E P T for the internet.
The internet, once it gets to the actual user consumer is rotten through and through. Why this is, I do not yet know.

Maybe there should be more government supervision to enhance quality requirements, BECAUSE the internet is so important to learning and educaton.

I would say that the Thai Gov should try its best to enhance internet services everywhere. We need a great internet infrastucture if we want to also become a great country.

I will be interested to know you, knowing that you are a new newbie, like me.
I don't enjoy wacking the golf ball,
Or wacking much anymore, in general.
    Wack, wack, wack,
Far better than hearing quack, quack, quack, though,
Any day of the year, that is for sure!
