    New Member - Udon Thani

Hi, new member here from Udon Thani. We are currently looking to build a new house so I expect I will be active on those boards in the future.

How many posts do I need to be able to reply to threads on the other boards?

I look forward to lots of nice discussions!

    Cheers!

Welcome to TD!! If you plan to build a house around Udon, I would HIGHLY recommend renting something first and looking around unless you already have a spot picked out.

I have a plot off the Nong Bua Lamphu road about 9km out of town if you are interested.

normally excellent advice Rick, but since the "gentrification" of UT, the demographics have changed and UT is more prone to crime over the last few yrs. burglaries have increased proportionally.
A few short yrs ago unheard of, now weekly is common. Last week I got done over myself.

May be true to a point, but there are still a lot of people coming up from Bangkok looking for land and property around Udon since we are less prone to flooding. Property has increased at a farily good rate over the last 5 years and I personally think it will continue to rise, especially if there is more serious flooding in the rest of Thailand.

The Claim that Udon is flled refugees from "water town" goes against what can be seen. I live 8 km east of Udon. property around here has remained fairly static pricewise for at leas 5 yrs. there have been fully built houses available here unsold 3 yrs at least. Not unduly over priced.
There can’t be good living where there is not good drinking

I live 4 kms East of Udon and the price of land in the area has doubled in the 3.5 years that I've been here.

Poorly maintained houses on moo bans doesn't seem to have moved much, if at all.

Rick I am not trying to talk udon down. I think its a cracking place for our purposes, not in the city but only 10 min away from a good girls school. 30 mins from town on a Bike, no traffic jam to speak of.

Not a bad place to hang your hat Ozzy, I had a couple of
days up there last week with a few mates, good bars, cheap
eats,Seaside 2 was one of them, I think ? stayed at the Top
Mansion, 450 baht a night, went down to Chern Chim (near the lake)
for snags, pies, & other essentials, met some characters around the
traps, g'day Kiwi (he can't help that ) Bruce, with the funny checked
    hat.

As MacArthur said, I will return, but I will wait till the trains are back
    to normal 555.

All the best Ozzy, maybe I will bump into you one day
