    Goldwing GL 1800.. now that's a cruiser.

A 2001+ VFR 800.. Continental crossing capability at a reasonable price.

Yamaha Fazer.. 1000 or 600.. Comfort, reliability and easy maintenance

When you look at what else you could buy to suit your purpose, the only reason to choose a Harley is that you like the noise they make.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

People that hate harleys are just people yet to experience one. I love all bikes and each one has it's place. Just some people are so one eyed about it. All you Harley bashers please tell us what you ride and your years of bike experience.

I don't hate Harleys.. the early ones and the motorcycle culture that grew up around them are fantastic. They were really going somewhere with the XLCR and then they dropped the ball and just stagnated. The later models and the wanna be culture that followed is shallow and flacid in comparison.
If you want a Harley get a vintage, you'll get admiration and respect for it, otherwise opt for something that serves the purpose better, unless of course the purpose is to look like a fag and make a lot of 'look at me' noise on your trip to the 7-11.

As many of you may know I bought a 2010 Sportster from HD here in BKK. Many of you said that it was a girly bike and not a real Harley. Sure wish that I had listened to that advice.

I can not keep my wife off of the damn thing!

In the future it looks like we may be a 2-Harley owner family.

You bought an 883- it's a 'beginner's bike' (and, in fact, is recommended to women as it's very low to the ground) that is easy to out-grow, and was pretty friggin' expensive for a bike that you'll most likely want to upgrade in a short time (your experience, of course, may vary)- nothing wrong with it, but I still think you should have gone for a 600cc Japanese in-line four and learned to really ride before buying a cruiser.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Guys on the advrider are building very cool bikes based on the xl1200s Sporster engine

This one is very cool, not very loud either. My next bike will be something like this I reckon.

The XR1200 engine is a nifty piece of work too.

I am No Basher, worked on enough to know what I like (S&S motors are a far cry from a leaking Shovel head) Evo's have improved. You will not see me on a street bike with the exception of a 125cc moped (Yeah get your laughs in now). I have had enough hospital visits from dirtbikes to keep me off the road (still visit regularly ) . You also forgot a few

    • Triumph
    • Indian
    • Victory
    • Buell
    • Titan
They are great, just in how you look at it.

Yeah gotta admit that you'd probably be torgue steering the frame through the bends and the headstock would most likely melt like a cheese under braking, even if you could grip the front brake lever hard enough to actually stop the thing, but what a beauty, definitely a K1 style but that's where I think they dropped the ball, if the Italians could make great sports bikes with V-twins then the Americans certainly could have done it even better.

The new Triumphs are "only" around the 500k range. Full dealer backup in bkk and Chiang Mai.....Classic range- Bonneville, Thruxton and scrambler to choose from. Loads of aftermarket bit's and they have the strong brand image that Harleys have. You can also brag to Thais proudly that they are made here too. (and aren't crap!)

You are so far of the mark it aint funny, having have owned a old FLHS shovel that was fun but was for ever putting a spanner to it, The EVO started harley back on the right path and the new flat head motors are by far the best harley have ever built and are the quilty of the newer bikes.
Lot of nice bikes at the Khon kaen bike show last night and got they lucky with the rain.
Had to laugh when they told all farangs to go ahead and drink wiskey as the police will not be checking tonight so of course we did, It was time to leave when me mate fell of his chair time to get the bikes into town.
Funny as fuck when he couldnt find his bike as there was about 50 that looked the same in the car park.

    AMF build quality..?
He's got a point, made like a Fiat Strada would be more appropriate.

OK, AMF was a big mistake and everyone knows that, but overall HD has a good product and you can't argue with their marketing strategies.

I will just correct that, should have been fat head motors

Are you going to customise the RK?
Summat like this? Bagger style perhaps.

You got it, probably do the engine mods first, big bore, cams, heads then apes and front end.
