Does Anyone Have a Mitsubishi Pajero?

I'm looking for a new SUV- I would probably get a Fortuner as it will have pretty decent resale value when I dump it, but the wife wants something different, and is pushing me towards a Pajero.

Does anyone have experience owning a recent model? Any info would be much appreciated.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I think there's a thread on here about someone buying one of them. Do a search.

    Jesus Jones.

He looked at a bunch of SUVs and decided on the Pajero.

His thread on the search here.

Yes, i bought the Pajero 3.2 and i'm well chuffed with it. Plenty of room and quite efficient on the long runs. Dash is pretty basic but sporty and look better than the toyota in my opinion, although a little plasticy as with all. No complaints so far and i have already done 28k since purchasing it.

Had a 2.5 Animal in the UK, and although some say there is little difference the 3.2 and 2.5, i think they are wrong. The 3.2 is well worth the money.

There is a useful used car report from the UK Sunday Times:
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/used_car_reviews/article823874.ece
A bit dated and based on the European version of the pajero. Apparently Pajero means 'wanker' in Spanish so they had to rename it for certain markets.
There are also links to other used Shogun/Outlander models.
    Hope it helps.

    Cool- thanks for the info.

I've driven a Fortuner many times and I'm really not crazy about it- I have a feeling I'm gonna end up with the Pajero (and the wife thinks it's 'cute', which is the most important thing to look for when buying a new vehicle...)- I'll try to set up a test-drive next week.

Also, Chass, remember when the Chevy 'Nova' was introduced- that name also had to be changed for the Spanish-speaking market ('no va' = 'no go').

Honda jazz was to be named Honda Fitta in Norway - "Small on the outside but large on the inside" was their slogan and the brochures had been printed.

Fitta is a part of the female anatomy - a proud old word in Norse, these days it translates more or less exactly to the english word - cunts

I bought a new Pajero in 2007 when I was working in the UAE. It was a 3 door 3.0 litre petrol GLS. I sold it when I left the UAE this year. I wouldn't hesistate to buy another.

Perhaps the pick-up based SUV gives you the manouverability of a sedan, and the muscle to bluster through Thai traffic with some confidence.

I need something with decent off-road capability to replace my old Ford Escape (which, while it had a poor rep for quality, never gave me a single problem in seven years- it was probably the most reliable vehicle I ever owned).

my old bloody 94 triton 4b4 dropside ute, has a turning circle like an old C3 bedford truck, hook a trailer up to it and its a bloody nightmare to reverse in sticky situations, but apart from that does everything i ask it to, even the winch on the front works well , i love my winch!

I've had 3 Monteros over the last 20 years... Same vehicle, just branded differently for the US market... I would not hesitate to buy another...

I had a Mitsu Pajero rental for about a month while in the sand box in Kuwait working. It had all the get up and go that was needed and ran well enough but for some reason, and I can't recall exactly what it was, it just seemed that the interior layout was not accomodating for me. Other than than fine.

FailSafe, the 2005 Ford Escape I had/have in the States treated me just fine. It was the V6 and think it was one of the best SUV's I've ever ridden. I like it even more than my new Honda CRV that I'm driving here in LOS. The Escape is in storage right now for when and if I ever get back to the States. The Daughter is minding it and starting it up every month and moving it within the garage. I sort of wish I had bought another Ford Escape here in Thai.

I think you would have a hard time spending ~double (I think when I bought mine for ~USD40K it was less than 25K back home) what you paid in the States for an Escape in Thailand (I know I would)- it bothers me enough that we have to pay such a premium for certain cars/SUVs here- I don't think I could get past the fact that I had already bought one for a reasonable price where I'm from.

I would consider another one, but it just can't handle what I will probably need it to do in the future.

$26K for loaded with all options at the end of 2004 for the 2005 model through the AAFES Mil Overseas Sales. Used it overseas for 2 years and in the States for a year before taking up residencey here.
U R correct about same model costing about $40K over here in LOS. But then again, the up pricing is the case regardless of what make one purchases. It is what it is.

Did you know that "Pajero" is Spanish slang for "Wanker"?

I wonder how the marketing people come up with these names sometimes.

I refer the honourable gentleman to post number 5 in this thread.
