The new Ford is 20% more frugal than the last (if you believe the BS).
And old Landrovers are probably the nastiest car you will ever drive. Even worse than a Mini.

Actually I'd love an old landrover for the farm....would'nt want to drive one everyday thoughOriginally Posted by Marmite the Dog
landrovers are the best roo shooting vehicles available. had one 20 years ago. cut the roof off the back. put up the spotlight, and bingo. couldn't stop the mofo. that was off road. real bitch on the h'way
I used to get about 1.2 Baht/Km from my 2.5 l. Toyota Tiger Hilux - but I stopped calculating it when deisel was 15 Baht/l. So I guess it's nearer 2.4 Baht/Km now.
I've had the Vigo brochures for months, but still can't be bothered to change as there's no problems with the Tiger.
I wouldn't buy a car for driving in Phuket - the roads just aren't good enough, but a mate has got a Mazda 3 and it looks very nice.
The other reason I haven't changed is because the load space on the 4WDs looks tiny compared with my Tiger. You can just about get a 6-pack of kitchen towels in the Vigo and it's full.![]()

oddly enough I used to feel far more comfertable in a pick-up down there than a car, I don't think it was because of the raods but rather the people on themOriginally Posted by RDN
I've had 40 bails of hay on the back of my 4door (ok I had to use a lot of string). Yes 2 doors carry more but unless you are trying to get a couple of cows on it does'nt really make that much differanceOriginally Posted by RDN
I have more than the average number of arm and legs
Well I think you should go for an Aston Martin or may be Audi?Originally Posted by RC
Its that just some sort of alpabetical thing....find me one for less than a million bhat and I'll think about it, although I really wanted at least 4 seats so it sort of rules the Aston outOriginally Posted by Mhz
Okay so what about a Hummer or a Toyota lexus???
just kiddin.Which type of car do you like??
I have found a special type of car that, although it only has two wheel drive and outwardly seems like an ordinary saloon, can negotiate the roughest terrain and survives incredible abuse.
It's called a hire car.
I've got a Toyota Corolla that I bought in 1995 (just after the Bht crashed) It's been to everyone of the 76 provinces, over all kinds of roads and in all kinds of weather.
I've frequently left it standing for over 3 months without it being started and returned to find it starts without any problems. - Reconnect the battery and it starts as if it was driven the day before.
The maintenance has been sheduled services at an official Toyata dealer (dirt cheap), tires, windscreen wipers.
It has only suffered two faults, a coroded battery terminal and the indicator relay needed changing.
I plan to run it for at least another three years, thereafter I'll buy another Toyota.
Reliable, Functional, Comfortable and best of all Cheap.
Yea I used to have a Toyota Saluna 1.5 did everything, can't fault it really except to say it was really blandOriginally Posted by Itchy
Me I've always liked small cars with big engines, but it's not just about what I like got to think of loads of other stuff and I've got to sell mine first. Probably nip into toiwn in a couple of days and do some test drives and see what deals they are offeringOriginally Posted by Mhz
I like Toyota Corolla.It is comfortable,cheap spare-parts,good mileage,reliable,durable and good resale.
I think you should give Toyota Corolla a try.
Bland is fine by me, I don't want to stand out more than I already do in Thailand, I'm quite happy for people I meet the believe I'm Jo Ordinary with a Jo Ordinary car and Jo Ordinary limits to my available cash.Yea I used to have a Toyota Saluna 1.5 did everything, can't fault it really except to say it was really bland
When I want to stand out of the crowd I take my MUTT for a drive

friend of mine has a rental car business in NZ.He has an average of 700-800 vehicles at any one month that are being rented.most of the cars that he buys are second hand from Japan. In his opinion there is no car better than toyota for reliability....not Honda ,not mazda or F(ound) O(n)R(ubbish) D(ump). That's across the board for both diesel, petrol, sedans and 4x4.
What about this car:
he paid 50,000 if I remember correctly and to my big surprise it had not only air condition but the a/c actually worked.

But they are so boring. The colours are so awful.
The only good looking model they ever made was the 1972 Celica GT, dubbed the mini-mustang.
I don't know if things have changed but back in the 90s Mazda automatic transmissions were pieces of shit. They were used in Ford compact car and Ford compact pickup models too. I've got a few friends in the car business who warned me about Mazda automatics. My mother went out and bought a compact Ford and sure enough the car needed a totally rebuilt transmission after 45k miles.
Toyota and Honda are the most reliable cars on the road.
I like Fords. This one would be nice.

Go for something with plenty of luggage space.
