In 1997 I took a 911 for a test spin....I pulled up at a set of traffic lights and a very cute blonde in the car next to me gave me a very big smile.

I went back to the dealer and bought it.

Couple of months later I had a bright idea....I wrote for sale on the back and my number and I got lotsa calls.

I also had an FJ40 swb landcruiser and it went everwhere and had some great travels with it.....so both my favourites for very different reasons.

Thanks Tuddy and you must be my biggest fan here, well probably the only one who reads all my posts with anticipation!

By any chance have you ever driven a Honda Accord, and the model I am talking about at high speeds??

When I owned the Beamer in Oz I don't think I drove the car faster than a 110kms per hour due to the very strict speed laws so I couldn't really test its handling performance at high speeds and in an "Emperor Tud" mode.

All I know and when driving within the legal speed limits the Honda handled much the same as the beamer and regarding acceleration of the mark I reckon the Honda might just pip the beamer up to about 100kms per hour. The only clear difference between the 2 cars were the brakes and the Honda suffered badly here.

And with regard to you my little Scottish mate your just the bees knees at everything aren't you.

Chance of an autograph one day and if we ever meet?

Stupid 18 year old driver (me). Driving too fast, a mechanic that inspected the car afterwards said that a stearing rod had given way, which basically threw the car sideways at approx 120 kph.

The car flipped and rolled one and a half times and came to a rest on its roof. You can see that the driver side door was ripped open somehow during the roll. I was luck not to have fallen out, I had a very small graze on my right hip where it had touched the road. Luckily there was noone in the passenger seat.

When the tow truck arrived on the scene, he saw me standing next to the upturned car and the guy said to me "Has the driver already been taken to hospital?". He was amazed to learn that I was the driver.

He wouldn't attempt to put the car back upright until the Fire Brigade arrived cause there was lots of petrol spilled.

When we arrive back at my parent's place at about 3am (obviously a lot of noise in the quiet street) when I went inside my Mum says:
    "Is that you %%%%%?"
    me: "yep"
Mum: "what's all that noise outside?"
me; "Tow truck, I wrecked my car"
    Mum: "You OK?"
    me: "yep"
Mum: "OK, see you in the morning"
Wow, your mum swears at you?

I don't think you need say any more.

What makes you think you are qualified to judge a car's handling ?

Personally, I like the Lexus LS 430. Most comfortable car I have ever driven and with age coming on, comfort is very important.

Tuddy, if you want to copy a photo on one2car, or anything else you see on the your PC, do a Screenshot of it. If you you don't know what a Screenshot is, check with Dr. Google.

Not my car, but very similar to the first one i ever drove (Blackpool beach), well, that was a red car with pedals. Not certain it was red, the photo is black and white. Cried a lot when my stint was over.

I've been driving bikes and cars for 40 odd years, big, small, fast, slow, heavy light, expensive and cheap.

I reckon I have some experience and why would you ask me that question and why do you think you are qualified to judge me?

Basically the feel on the road, weight of steering/ turning and especially acceleration as I believe the Honda was just as competitive regarding power off the mark as the 3.0 litre BMTroubleyou.

I also admitted I had not driven the BMW at a speed whereby I could really gauge its handling performance (at high speed) unlike my Honda whereby on occassionsand when the tollways are clear of traffic take it up to 200kpm here in Thailand.

Any more other questions feel free to ask!

I was the one who asked. I thought there might be an easier way than a screenshot but thanks anyway.

You are right, comfort is important when age is coming in and I am not so far from 40 anymore.

Having owned more 150 TE/TF cortina's (mk-IV/mk-V) in numerous different mechanical configurations from naturally aspirated 2 litres all the way to twin turbo v8's i would have to say the mighty Cortina is the most favoured cars ive owned.

Had some beasts over the years,

    Jauar E-Type 4.2 s2 FHC,

Dax Cobra shelby replica with a 5.7 350 chevy blueprinted motor, with 4 barrel holleys and a hurst racing gearbox, spin the wheels in every gear , wow, but ony 7 miles to the gallon,

LOTUS ESPRIT Turbo in essex blue, peice of crap

FERRARI 308 GTB, loved it, but sevicing a nightmare, had to grow a money tree in the yard.

ROLLS ROYCS SILVER SHADOW S1, another peice of crap, citreon suspension, like driving a boat, used to rent this out as a wedding car.

    JAGUAR XJS 4 litre convertable.

PORSCHE 911 TURBO 1988 minter with full white leather, this was my baby, loved it. sold it about 3 years ago with 40k on the clock, regret it now.

And just bought a BMW MINI COOPER S For my daughter, but i love this, had more fun driving this, sticks to the road like glue, got a S/S millteck exhaust and minifold, K&N Induction kit, chipped etc, it is quick.

I would agree with this, but only because the BMW you owned was a convertible....and as good as BMW convertibales are....they flex and bend and vibrate. BMW convertibles do not handle the same was a one with a steel roof, so the comparison holds water.

    Toyota Soarer (SC400 in US)

4Liter V8, 260 bhp, with 18" wheels and Lo Profile tyres it could really handle

Had it for 6 years and drove the Shit out of it,

Had many cars in my time Ferraris/Porches, BWMs

    The Soarer is my favourite

Until I bought a Jag Sovereign 4ltr in Uk for 2 grand, never liked late Jags but this is a really good car , press the Sports button , it will fly, the LWB give it superb ride, mmmhhh impressed

After I wrecked the HR one of my mate's step-fathers gave me a 1953 MK I Zephyr.
    Same colour as this one.

The only condition that he made was that when I got a different car that I give it back to him. We needed to put a another engine in it to make it drivable. It was a real beast.

    I had a 525i Beemer.

A bag of shite if I remember correctly. The cabin was smaller than a Ford Escort and it was gutless. A 2.0i Vectra was a better car.

I had a 2001 Nogaro Blue Audi S4 Avant, man I love that car! Stock was 260hp, but I got it chipped and a new exhaust on it! It was putting around 310hp! One fun car to drive. I had lots of cars trying to race me, they were surprise at how fast that wagon can go! I was keeping up with E46 M3, Sti, and Evos, always got the thumbs up from them when they saw what that wagon could do.

It was a great car, had lots of fun during the winter as well, seeing so many cars stranded in a blizzard, the audi was pushing through the snow without any traction problems.

Too bad I had to sell it when i finished my masters in the states, I never had to hire a U Haul when I moved apartments, now back in thailand driving a civic! can't afford such a nice car here :-(

I always wanted one of the psychadelic hippy buses. Always thought they were pretty darn cool.
