I almost bought a Ducati a while back but I was put off by the fact that I couldn't find anybody on the island who could service them apart from minor things like an oil change, anything else would have required shipping it up to BKK.

There seems to be an agent/dealer now, on Chao Fah West opposite the new Honda dealership there is a bike shop that now has a great big Ducati banner in front, I think they even have a new model Monster or two in stock. If they can do proper services and maintenance then I'll have a really hard time stopping myself buying a Duc this year (Mme Slackula's vociferous objections notwithstanding..)

    Someone bought it already.
I'm relieved. My life is already sufficiently complicated with too many vehicles.

Yeah, probably that guy named Yot. That place gives me the creeps as well. Gotta lead on another one, black CB1300 superfour, 05 w/ only 10,000 on the clock for 200. The bike is here in Kaeners. All is I'll have to pay the tax and get the sapasommet...15,000 or so i'm told. Are u in town yet?

80,000 to register it correctly. Which I would strongly advise.

    Wanted: oil cooled gsxr 1100

Hi....anyone know of an oil cooled gsxr 1100 suzuki on the market. I'd prefer the usd fork model (K,L or M) Conditions not too important coz I'm goin' to hack it to bits with a big grinder as soon as I get it home anyway, but i will need a green book as I hear that registering chops is a hassle here without one. It would be nice if the engine & runnin gear were all ok, but scratches dents and general malaise I can work with.....
    cheers...

Were ye able to make them fully legal in the end?

I'd rather pay 900k for a brand new fully legal 848 than 500k importing a 10 yr old in bits and pieces and still not having it legal with plates, book etc.

Only the 1999 and 2000 models weren't restricted to 186mph (I had a 2000 I bought new)- they geared-out at 194mph, actually- you had to go into the engine (you need close to 200hp) and go up a tooth in front or down a couple teeth in back to hit 200mph.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Of course it is possible to make legal, how do you think every other big bike in Thailand other than new got here. well atleast 99% ?

Little bit harder for my chopper as it will not pass any tests as its to low, to long, to loud, no indicators, no speedo. So only did all the taxes.

Yes, of course it is possible to make them fully legal, but a bit of a headache and filled with uncertainty from all accounts I've read of.

And would seriously doubt that 99% of big bikes here are fully legal with books, plates, taxes. I'd be surprised if over 50% were fully legal.

Off course not, 99% of all secondhand bikes with plates are bought in by parts. It is a mine field and wouldnt recomend it unless, you have someone to help you that has done it before.

Because some people know people and can, many don't and can't. Was really quite a simple question. And the answer is what, yes for your mate and no for you?

    Stop being a retard
Anyone can do it, but much better to have someone with a import license do it for you, Once you have it here in Thailand and have paid import tax, you put the bike together and take pictures.
Stensil engine and frame number on some tape and head down to pay your excise tax.
Now as long as the bike can pass emissions and and is road worthy you can get a legal book.
I cant as mine is a custom chopper and unless I change the front end and pipes and put indicators and a speedo, then maybe I would get the book. But as well I wouldnt send it to bangkok for two weeks with a bunch of monkeys.
