re Enfields, the guy has been trying to hawk around that agency for 3 years. If you have any experience of the bike you will know why he's have a hard time getting interest. The warrantee costs will soon kill anyone that takes the agency on. I thnk the Original Enfield would be a more reliable bike.

You don't need a book for and F650 you can use other motorbikes.

It's a case of knowing people in the office who can change the books for your needs.

I went down to the local dmv with my invoice papers and the guy there (who knows my wife ) says it won't be a problem.

He gave me some forms for the guy I bought it off to sign - presumably some sort of ownership transfer - and it will be in my name.

Sounds too good to be true but will keep you posted, there will probably be some sort of problem in trying to do it.

gazza, if you are reading this I can't reply to your pm here yet but thanks for the info.

I was so happy, I took it out for a good thrashing in the mud!

Two words I most dread hearing from any Thai...'No Problem'.

They will let you change the frame and engine numbers and adjust the engine size a bit but they will not let you change either the year of manufacture or the make. No matter how much you pay them.

Latest: Gotta get the people who imported it to sign the transfer papers saying they sold it to me. Should be easy enough but it will mean a trip to Bangkok and it will cost a lot to get it done. Not sure how much but maybe 70k.

Still might be worth it....the bike was pretty cheap.

You are probably right there Peter Pan.

    I think I was mistaken.

My Varadero's book was a fucking mess.. Four cyclinders and 14 years old. The pratt at Chonburi Superbike made a right old bodge of the books

I used to do a lot of biking in the UK but have been put off buying one here, partly due to the fact that all riders here are crap, and partly because I have heard stories of farangs being hassled by the police, et al. I had a 1979 Kawasaki Z1000 which was stipped down and bloody lovely but sadly parted with it before coming here.

If you're a biker and have some encouraging words about buying and riding in Thailand, I'd love to hear from you as it's one of the main things I miss. Mind you, I do have a bicycle and have managed to take out one stupid Thai moped rider so far. One down, millions to go.

As Royal Enfields were being discussed I thought you might like to compare this trio that I spotted a couple of weeks ago.

Nearest to the camera is a late model British built 500. You can tell it is a late model by the rear frame section. Note also that like all British bikes o that era the back brake is on the left side.

And the view from the right side.

In this close up you can see a small lever above an behind the gear lever, that is for rapid selection of neutral without having to go through the gears first, the owner of this bike seems to have locked his off. Behind the neutral selector is an indicator that shows which gear you are in - completely useless in my opinion. Note the oil leaks that seem to be a design featue of all Brit classic bikes.

Now here is a nealy new Indian built Enfield. You can see that it retains the older style frame, but the gearbox has become 5 speed and the gear lever and rear brake have changed sides. This one also has an electrical start.

Now I haven't seen one of these outside India. This is a diesel engined model, the engine has probably been adapted from an industrial pump or generator.

Here is a closer view of the left side of the engine, not a very neat or attractive installation but I suppose it gives good economy. The stop lever seems to be tucked down at the front of the crankcase. I wonder what it is like trying to start it in cold weather.

Enfield have just introduced an updated model with an aluminium barrel and new cylinder head.

I bought the cheapest model Honda Dream last week as I really couldn't justify paying more for what seemed like flashy paint and coloured wheels. I would have bought a Suzuki or Yamaha 125 (can't remember which) but it had a clutch change and it seems I am the only potential rider that has ever driven a bike like that.

I must admit that I would like to get an Enfield for plodding around as I don't really need to go fast anymore, but that will have to wait a while yet.
    Lord, deliver us from e-mail.

You will get over it, I mean you miss them for a while but there are plenty more in Thialand, easy to find and you might even get a later model one. I used to trade mine in every month, always manged to make on the deal.
And you have the consolation in still having your bike and presumably you got her car or did she take that with her?

Just think someone else is having their way with her as we speak riding her hard untill he has got ever last drop of juice out of her. Running her chain dry and smoking her tryes off. And puting her to bed dirty. If you had really loved her you wouldn,t have pushed her away to late now

Maybe the new owner is spoiling her rotten, carefully washing then oiling her up and a loving caress before bedtime.

maybe mr q was a complete bastard, leaving her unatendend and neglected at home while he was out drooling over newer, sexier models in the evenings.....

He won't be able to make it to the usual S/M leather biker hang-outs without the bike.

    Unlike Eliminator.

Is this the best you can give as a stab back at me? This is your answer to everything. Does seem to be your obsession. You and the buttfly make such good mods (NOT), are you and he just friends or is he really your wife? You both have the same sexual interests and always make these types of comments to anyone that don't think or post the same as you do.

Why don't you come up with something more original instead of your constant homo or otherwise sexual devience to bash someone with. I guess I should just consider the source and let it go as just rantings from a bitter German that has to run away when someone asks him to do his duty. No wonder you left Germany for so many years during the draft, all your countrymen would have spit in your face.

Whoa Lads! this should be a "nice " thread, just a bunch of bikers having a chat.

Moving on a bit, what would be your choice, money being no object and only one bike allowed. For me I think The KTM superduke

Granted it looks a bit weird and I have not even ridden one but I think at my advanced stage of life this would be the most balanced choice. Punchy twin Cylinder, Not to heavy, great braking system and sticky Diablo Tires, should make a great ride.
