Is anyone well versed in this department?
I've got a 20 year old Dream Excess which needs an exhaust, new rear shocks and a better headlight.
I just want it to run smooth, have as compliant a ride as possible and be more visible.

Just go to a Honda dealer with mechanics and they will sort it out.
I recommend the Honda dealer opposite the Timber Hut in Phuket Town.
Good advice, that's what I normally do. I go to the dealer here in Patong. They're good also, cheap and very convenient.
I was wondering about the seeming myriad of after-market parts for these scooter. All the periodicals are in Thai so it's difficult to read up on them. And there just isn't much of a western market for this scooter stuff.
Jet it and add a free flowing air filter and pipe and 10 hp shot of nitrous should do it mr Earl
Umm! but then I'll have to worry about brakes. I don't want fast, just smooth and quiet.
That little 100cc engine is a smooth runner. I'll probably stay stock, mostly because I'm also cheap.
And the Thai modifications seem to revolve around the stupid low profile tire which ride horrible and noisy mufflers
Talking of older small bikes.....
The old Honda Cub 50's, 70's and 90's are becoming very popular here in Phuket.
Resprayed and rechromed, they look gorgeous.
I want to buy one, but, hardly any of them have the original spoked wheels. The spokes go straight from the hub to the rim, with no crossing other spokes on the originals.
Does anyone know where I could get hold of an original set of wheels in Bangkok?

For the headlight get a Xenon bulb the more expensive the better as some cheaper ones are imitation and just change the colour.
Lots of cheap parts for the "Cub" but unless you need a hobby/project it is probably not worth it as performance gains are modest. It is easy to get 115cc and big carburettors, cams etc are cheap. Less than 1500 Baht.
If you can't decipher the local mags and want some English language help there is Faddy Bike in BKK. But they are geared to the European demand so price reflect this.
SB,
I'm pretty sure you could find them somewhere on the island as "restoring" those older bikes has become a bit of a cult. If you are stuck I could spend an hour sometime going to Saphan Kwauy here in BKK and look. However I suspect I will need to look for a specific shop that specializes in the "restoration: thing. I you need help I will need a picture.

Thanks for the info, but, I'm not interested in enhancing the performance of a 25 to 30 year old bike. I want a pristine old bike with original parts that I can putter to the pub on.
I have a newish Honda Wave i for any trips that include hills.
VN,
Please don't go out of your way, but, thanks for the offer.
I haven't bought one yet. They range in price from 17,000 Bt to 38,000 Bt, yet, I haven't seen a single one that had all the correct parts.
I'll be away for three months and hope to get one when I come back.
Thanks again for the offer.
When I lived in Rayong there was a stall in the Monday market that sold parts for the old style Cubs. Light blue seems to be the colour of choice. Not sure if that is original.
Many restored ones in Rayong but I only noticed them in passing so cannot confirm/deney if they are "original".
Sounds like the making of a fine Wet-Dream...![]()
There is a shop in Hua Hin that specialises in restoration of the old Cubs. Maybe too far for you to travel, but I will try and take some photos next week anyway.Originally Posted by Sir Burr
Thanks. That would be excellent.
I found a couple of pictures I took last year.

Loverly, but none of them have the correct wheels. I'll have to check in Bangkok.
^ If you look carefully I think the blue pastel one behind the mini bike has the non-crossover spokes. Some of the others do as well but you cannot see them in the photographs as they are too much in the background.
There are a couple of shops in the Chalong/Rawai area who do better than perfect restorations and one in Phuket town --PM for directions![]()
Thanks Happyman, but I know the one in Phuket Town. They only restore, don't sell. Also, you have to find most of your own bits.
Have checked out the Chalong / Rawai places. There is a beautiful Honda Cub 70 at a Chalong shop. Wheels, exhaust and pegs not original. No original markings either. They want 38,000 Bt for it, which I've passed on.
I've also seen the original parts manual and the spokes don't cross.
Very confused now.....
I stumbled upon Honda heaven when rebuilding my Wave. Can't find ant straight ones.Honda Heaven :: The holy home of Honda 4-stroke singles

Found another shop in Phuket town
On the left hand side of Bangkok Road on the way to Robinsons- near Soi 11
A new big after-market shop - not stopped there yet - its been raining every time I go by-but they always have some smart restored bikes outside and a few owners sitting sippin beer!
Could be a good contact point for original bits if nothing else.![]()
SB,
I found your wheels? Honda-cub whilst trying to find some racing parts for a Suzuki Raider for a guy in Indonesia
shop is called "Pro Racing" and they seem to be an OK bunch of people
