Got a Ranger, watch your water depth.

Gotta love the Ford claim to fame of 800mm wading depth with the Ranger.
Big down pour and my street got flooded, was following a small Toyota sedan through about 300mm of water and all my electrics died (dead battery), after a jump start it now blows lots off white smoke and runs like a pig, I reckon the motor is toasted. :-(.............. Guessing Ford will tell me just like the clutch issue that I have "All Rangers do that"............... assholes.........................

Iam/was a devout Ford fan but never will I own one again either new or second hand and I'll happily tell anyone considering to buy a Ford to think otherwise.

No wonder they went broke in Australia.
To add insult to injury Ive lost my front number plate so will need to go to police station to report it.

I was a Ford owner in the 1980's n 90's Fords where easy to maintain at home and most cars where simple to work on,so if anything needed repairing you could buy a manual and do a home repair. All that has changed, computers and emmision regulations have transformned vehicles into much more complicated and expensive beasts to maintain. Thus Ford are looseing out,as you could forgive a Ford in the past by doing a DIY repair, today it is in the workshop and the repair bill is making many Ford owners look elswhere. Including myself, goodbye Ford.

bloody hell..just did a search on new Ranger problems...seems there are lots...
about the cracks in the steel of the box..you'd think they could get the cargo space right...it is a truck after all..Seems there is a recall on the trailer hitch welds..."Built Tough ?)
Guess we are not alone in the poor service department many complaints in this regard from South Africa and Europe.

Think the trend to making pick ups to grab some of the SUV market may be the issue?

Hard to know what to buy as a real ute nowadays....

Wow. That's surprising! Blowing whites smoke, you probably got water in your engine or fuel? I also heard they have a rust around the I ejector seal area issue from rain water.

Not a big surprise seeing as it was designed by Aussies.

I'm more than happy with my Japanese Ford.

The Ranger does look very decent and I also was thinking about getting on, but if it can not even deal with 30cm it is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

    Cheers for the warning

I just came across this Surin falang

I just got a Ford Ranger in mid April, the first batch and its a chilli
Orange WT 4 door. Its a nice looking pick up and always get nice comments about
it from random people, even the BIB at times.

But some of the things on
it are not very good. I will list them and see if any of you have the same
    problem.

    - One of the air vents are already broken, the little nop you
use to mofe it, the stick its on that attached to the vents that goes sideways
game of the tracks, its a pain in the ass to put on, I cant seem to do it. So
got to go to ford to make them do it.

    - Front bonnet protector, its only
got double sided tape on the sides of it, after going on the freeway I hear a
flapping noise, when I got home I saw the bonnet protector on the right was
covering the blinker, I lifted it a bit and the flapping actually scratched the
hell out of about a 10 x 5 cm spot. Really poor design IMO.

    - The transmission, I feel like it already starting to go,
sometimes it changes gears early IMO and sometimes really late at about 2500
    RPM's.

    - When I over took someone on the weekend, I notice black smoke
coming out of the exaust, not sure what that it, will take it back to the dealer
when its time for a service. Or if it continues I will take it back next
    week.

    - The automatic wipers, they seem to work good on ocasions, but
sometimes it just goes way to slow and I cant see sheet.

    - There is no
slow mode for the wipers, not one that pauses for like 3 seconds. Its just auto,
slow (not very slow) and fast. So when the auto wipers are not working properly,
I have to do it manually which is annoying.

    - The aircon is really really
cold. on its warmest settings, it nearly as cold as my inlaws coldest setting. I
have gotten a slight cold off it a few times.

    - On a really hot day, the
aircon takes about 10 minutes to blow cold air, my CRV would kick in much mich
faster and it was a 7 year old car.

    - The key hole is not in a good
place, the keys are always hitting my leg, it get alittle annoying on a slighly
    bump road.

    - the coin pocket on the drivers side is too big, wen I pull
it down to get change out of iot for the toll, its always hits my knees and
getting coins out of it is a pain in the ass.

    - The bluetooth phone
system has dialed twice without me even trying too. It both times just dialed
the first number in my address book by itself.

    - The stereo, it sounds
good, but the difference in sound with regards to volume is a HUGE jump from 4
    to 5.

    - Sometimes when you break and about to stop, it seems like the
turbo just kick in or something as it sort of kicks forward like I have never
    experienced in any other car.

Other than that, its a ok car. But I
think the design inside really is not as good as they make it out to be, some
things were not thought out properly and poorly designed. Air vent coming off
the rails with little force shows it's not very well designed.

    Here's some from TV

Well, I had my 2.2 Wildtrak for just under 2 weeks.
I was over the moon with the features, and car like handling.
Until last Saturday, when I spotted that I had a good oil patch on my drive-way
I took it in on Monday to get it looked over.
I'm sure you could imagine, I was a bit peeved off.

I was notified on Friday that the oil catch lid is deformed and a new one would have to be ordered from America.

The new lid is expected the 2nd week of June, so at least 3 weeks from when I dropped it off.

My dealer has been great about the whole situation, they even gave me the demo XLT to use until I get mine back.

Also, when I first picked it up there were a few QC problems that I found, but they were minor and was going to wait for the first service to get them seen to

1-The ignition barrel has a 15mm gap all the way around the outside. (is this the same on all the rest?)
2-The drivers door rubber-stop was missing. (no biggie just must have missed it.)
3-The arm-rest/center-consul bottom latch doesn't fully lock. (is anyone's else the same?)
4-The cup holders in the bed are useless due to the side rails(Obviously a major design flaw)
5-The wheel wells have got wires inches from the tiers (am I missing a shield on them?)

When I did check the oil out that was left in the engine it was really black, but it was only 10 days old at that time, should it get that black that quick?

My dealer has been very helpful, but what stance should I take with Ford HQ

The ranger looks nice, but underneath the surface its proving to be problematic. No surprise there.

Much like thailand and so many of its people.

When buying a 4wd pick up, why anybody would even consider anything other than a toyota is beyond me, but then some people refuse to look beneath the surface and are sold on the image and attitude that the companies and their advertising agencies cleverly project to lure the simple, the superficial and the susceptible....... and just wait until you need a spare part, two months three months four months five.

Ford trucks are built for pose and show, not work or action, they are girly trucks.
Fine for the boulevards of los angeles, but not up to thailands tougher environment.
All those chromey bits and silly things they stick on just like lipstick and eyeliner and silicone breasts.
Its the "hello kitty " and "barbie doll" of the truck world.

Is fondles the american who dressed his truck up to look like a hollywood style special ops attack vehicle, all black and sinister?

I hope ford will play the white man and sort out his problems.

Thais will tell you to avoid ford, their dealerships invariably end up disappointing their customers, more the companies fault, supply, product reliability etc. than the dealers themselves.

This is from a Aussie forum

    Hi All

Where do I start. I had a toyota hilux for work and for my family , after ten years or so with no problems ( 360,000km ) It was time to update. Looked at all the new utes on the market. I THOUGHT the ranger was going to be the best.Well after waiting 6 months ( that was fine as I was told that ) I got my car xlt dual cab auto 3.2 4x4 on 31/8 /12. I picked it up on friday night at 6pm. When I got there the dealer in adelaide south did not order the roof racks . They put the wrong number plates on it so the insurance did not line up. Could not fix insurance place close. The next morning I got to look at it in the day light and noticed the window tint was to short for back window. Sent it to be fixed after the second time they got it right. Then at 2500km the battery drop a cell rang road side help ( ford ) the car was not on the system because they had the wrong number plates ( well done dealer ).Rang dealer they sent a toy truck to pick up. At 3800km the back right shocker seal leaking so went back.Got a new shock. At 5800 km the seat belt alarm beeping when the seat belt was on, after about 2km it stopped ( ford said we need it to do it all the time to fix it. ( so thats a time bomb ).16/12/12 This one is the best one 6800km, went away with the family for the weekend all good until sunday night went out side to move the car. There is oil over the driveway.I got under the car I have lost half the cars oil on the driveway and all underneath. So come monday morning the dealer will be told. All of these problems and I still have not had it in 4x4 drive yet. We are going away at christmas to northern N.S.W ( 3400 km round trip ). I dont think the car is going to make it.The bloke that has my hilux I want it back.

Strange, considering they don't have them in the US.

I'm surprised the Thai dealers would try to pin blame on a foreign company...

    True story.

Got a buddy who has one of them Ford Rangers. Bought it 'cause he's a big guy and can fit more comfortably behind the wheel w/out having to jack the seat back and destroy those passengers leg room in the back.

Well, one day not too long after he bought the truck he went out to start it and it was dead as a sausage. Towed it into the dealership there in Ubon and they told him all the wiring underneath had been eaten-on by some critters. Turns out his dogs would take refuge from the sun under his truck and gnawed a bit on the undercarriage.

    Personally, I'm sticking with Toyota.

Ford make very good cars these days, and in countries where consumer protection laws are in effect, i.e. most countries except thailand, their dealerships have no choice but to deliver.

Their trucks, however, are not fit for purpose, they may be able to carry surfboards to the beach in australia, and a fishing rod to the riverside in america, but they cant deal with the tougher conditions here and thats why so few thais buy them. The thai radio talk-in car programmes are full of ranger complaints.

They are for posing in, going to tescos, and tarting up like a teens astra. Its a toy, an affectation, a petulant poodle to preen, primp, polish and admire. Its an automotive posing pouch for those with bossy wives and a strange fetish for bonnet mounted snorkels and silly wheels.

Strange because the F-150 is or used to be the number one seller. Maybe Ford outside the US realize all of the above but just made too many bean counter type cost cutting decisions.

    This is old school thinking.

The Mazda BT-50, previous model, last of the older version, 2.5L, has been a great vehicle.

There's often teething problems when buying the first of a new type of model. Remember the VN commodore?
