The 650 does appear to have a lot more useable power than the 250:
Rent the 250 for one day, and the 650 the next.
Not much point though, as yer gonna buy the 650 anyway eh.
What bike have you got CM?
A couple on the go at the moment.
About to get rid of one at the moment if yer interested.
Originally registered in Sisaket she's been a toilet cleaner in Paragon for the past few years. Is right go-er, especially when you hit her power-valve.
You're becoming quite an expert...Originally Posted by Bettyboo
The bottom line is this- if you were in the States (or, to a lesser extent, the UK- you still get robbed by taxes/fees over there), there are a load of bikes that might be better suited for you in the 275K price range ( as well as a HUGE used market of decent bikes)- this is LOS, so you have to make do with what you can reasonably afford- the 650 is the most bike for the money right now, and it's still (barely) within the capabilities of a newbie sport-bike rider.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Or you could go for the new Honda Integra:
Or the version where they try to make it look like a motorbike:
The wannabe motorbike version is only 451,000b for around 70HP and 3 tonnes of weight.

At 6:35 mins, that's BKK on a good day!
Sure but the 250 has its place for being much lighter and easier to handle, nimble and more economical.
If you don't have lots of experience, the 250 offers a slightly easier platform to learn on.
Plenty of people start out on 650's, I started out my son on a KLR650. In hindsight it would have been easier for him on something smaller and lighter.
Much of motorcycling is an individual thing, your experience and personal style account for a lot.
I started on a 50cc Honda when I was 12. Worked up to a 250 2stroke enduro then worked as a city courier for a while on a 360 honda. Then got into 1+ liter sport bikes and BMW's. My favorite bikes have been the lighter and easier to handle bikes. One of my all time favorites was a 1976 R60/6 bmw. It was low on power and had drum brakes.
The big nasty r1100gs I have now has fantastic power and brakes and I tend to ride it at an adrenaline pumping pace which isn't always all that safe and have force myself to keep the speed down.
I am thinking seriously on scaling down to something much smaller like the baby ninja or the cbr250, I might go down and sit on a cbr later to see what it's like. The reviews on the thing are pretty impressive.
Anyway like I said earlier you should go to the dealer on rama 9 and take each for a spin around the parking to see how they feel to you.
No matter what you get; be alert, see and avoid.

Will your Missus get on the back with you BB.?
No she won't. She will be trying to run me down in the car...
I need to go and sit on them, that's the starting point as Mt Earl says above.
Go straight for the 650, you don't wanna look a queer like Chairman Mao, sticking a 250 on the train to Chiang Mai.
You know what those highways are like here, some prick will overtake you in the same lane when the other 2 fuckers are free. You need the power to stay out of trouble in Thailand.
^ or just part-ex the City for a Fortuner and play the game like everyone else...
The 650s are not that powerful, so should suit you ok. They're good, solid bikes and easy to ride.
^ that's what I am after.
After watching those videos, clearly the bike has plenty of power for road usage, but is not an animal in any way; seeing people get straight on and ride it seems to be quite tame although it certainly has enough to get you into trouble if you don't respect it. 125mph top end is hardly fast for a bike; it's a nice sized commuter with a little bit more potential for longer rides and fun rides, from what I can see.
Cycling should be banned!!!
After a fair bit of analysis thing, I've changed me mind. I know nothing about biking, and I might hate the fuker and never ride it again. Also, I've only ever ridden 125's so I might as well be sensible.
So, the question is: Which one:
110,000 baht with abs; the exhaust will have to go.
I like this, but not sure if it's avalable:
If I can find one/buy one in Repsol colours and a nice exhaust (not that hrrible triangular thing) for under 120,000 I'd be very interested.
I met abloke the other day who drove a CBR250R from central Bangkok to Hua Hin, he said it was great; he was a lot bigger than me too. I'm liking this bike. & it's cheap; I could put 30,000 down and pay abut 4,000 per month for 2 years or so, very easy to buy - I could get one today.
If anyone knows where a Repsol version can be bought new then please let me know.
Or this one:
A better looking bike, but no abs and close to 150,000. It's a bit bigger, which I quite like, supposedly reliable, but it ain't a Honda, and has a less reliable starting mechanism; faster at top end, but needs more revs and has less/low midrange torque that the Honda.
Any thoughts? Who has one?
^ that is a cool looking bike, and I already have the kit, so that could work out well!

Betty
Go & buy the 250 as you to much of a girl to ride the 650
& you should be posting on Butterfly thread
^ I'm sensitive you know...
I tend to go with whims, and I'd rather spend 110,000 for something I won't use than 275,000 for something I won't use... If I like it then I can look to upgrade after 6 months or so.
