without hearing exactly how the word is pronounced it is very difficult to guess at the spelling

Actually, since Ferretface can't read 1 word of Thai, I think it's spelt like:
ยีราฟ
we're registering the lad with the thai embassy in uk,they seem to need his name spelt in thai.
Why can't the Thai staff spell it? (rhetorical)
