When trying to spell most Thai names, you get the "dead consonants" at the end of the name, and it seems quite random which consonant it is. How the hell are you supposed to know when faced with a name you're unfamiliar with?

I dont know I will ask the kids. I do know look for the garand that indicates an unpronounced sound on the end of a word.

My understanding is these particular words are 'borrowed' from Khmen or Pali-Sanskrit so they retain their origional spelling. Now in Thai rules you can't end a syllable with more than one consonant so they bung on a little squiggle to let you know.
So as for the 'which consonant' bit I'm as farked as you!
