^^ No offense Lily, but even my (female) friends have expressed their frustration at the situation, as they found they had to significantly lower their expectation to date someone in Bangkok.. and honestly, you can't tell me you've never seen a couple of western girls in a pub in Bkk getting no attention whatsoever, who would surely be surrounded by guys in the west. I even have american friends here in Zürich who are slowly getting desperate because they get so little attention from the local guys. But here we are taking things far too seriously, it's supposed to be satire !

It did not apply to me. I am far past the age where I wanted to pick up blokes. The younger women that I worked with though, had no trouble and they were all not extremely attractive. Some where, some weren't.

I have heard this from men in Thailand before. It seems to me that it is just a derogatory, small minded attack on western women.

I have also never heard of a westen woman paying for it here, unlike many of their detractors.

I think you just want to insist on your prejudices and predefined opinions Lily :-) It's a simple mathematical equation, you have a similar number of young(ish) men and women entering Thailand, the older it gets the more are male. A far larger proportion of young men than young women chose, for one reason or another, to date Thai partners. Voila, you have a relatively large pool of western women left with the remaining men. Like I said, it's not an absolute thing, just relative. A woman that might get plenty of attention back home gets disillusioned here, while many guys who don't get too much attention feel like Chuck Norris (he's the man, right?)..

Not a large pool at all.

I am only reporting on my experience of western women in Thailand.

I do know that every time a youngish western woman came to work with us, there was great resentment and insulting behaviour from some of the men we worked with.

Not all, but some and along those lines.

Like men in their late middle age, coming out and saying, first up "sorry love, we only like Thai girls" to a twenty five year old woman!

Haha, ok, that must be a wierd situation, but please don't mirror your experience on your workplace on a satirical piece of journalism. It was just for a laugh, and quite accurately observed too imho.
And please note that my equation only included relatively young people with little to no age difference. Even there the gender gap is quite noticeable, like another poster said, it's far easier picking up an attractive western woman here in Bangkok than probably anywhere else ! So I don't want to imagine the chances of an average looking, middle aged western woman trying to find an adequate western partner in Thailand.. A simple observation, and nicely put too by NottheNation.
