I could never work out why people want to lay on a beach and get burnt. Seems both very boring and painful.
Good news AT.
The sun down our neck of the woods is certainly stronger than the wash off tan you can get in Thailand.
I had a melanoma cut out of my back when I was in my late 20's. I was just very, very lucky as it was about to go forth and multiply before it was removed.Doc told me to buy a lotto ticket.....
Have always covered up since.
It was more the life style that did it.
Nothing to do with lying in the sun Marmite.Although you pommies have to get some viatamin D some how....
I guess I could have made me "minimize my tanning" a little more clear. What I meant is that if you are out and about, you will get some "tan" on your face, legs, arms, whatever. I don't layout anymore, but I don't lather up with sunscreen everytime, I pop out for a walk to the market.
You have obviously not spent much time at a Nude Beach!
Even non-nude beachs, can be a lot of fun (jet sking, windsurfing, volleyball, dancing-in-the-sand, etc). The "lying out" does two things (besides increasing your risk of skin cancer), it builds a tan that looks good and allows you to spend more time out in the sun doing whatever you like to do in the sun.
Still, like drinking, there will come a time when you have to modify your lifestyle or risk dying from an activity-related side-effect.
Skin Cancer and liver disease? Come on grow a pair. I listened to the doctors tell my mum that I would never walk again but I would still happily beat any of you in a hundred meter sprint.
On a segway maybe.
Bring it!
How easy is it for someone to jack a Segway? Considering that you can run faster than the top speed of a Segway, you can't just jack one and ride off with it.
My money is on TFP
Segwayjacking: not so easy
The top speed of a Segway is 12.5 mph. How fast can an average person run? The fastest speed for the 100 meters is 9.77 seconds. That's 22.89 mph. But that's the fastest ANY human can run. Let's take the 1000 meter dash. That's a long enough race where we should get a general idea for a good sprint. The fastest 1000 meters is 2 minutes 11.96 seconds. That's 16.9 mph. So I think if you jack a segway, the person will be able to get up and jack you back, jacker!

I have a mark on my cheek that has been growing steadily in the past 3 weeks. I had it analysed by the NHS in the UK last year (May) and was told to try Efudix to see what effect that may have.
At the time i was somewhat puzzled as 3 years previously the same surgery had cut a slice of flesh from that area informing me that it was an aggressive form of skin cancer. It appears to have reared it's ugly head once more as today i was told that it is squamos cell so tomorrow i am going under the knife at Khon Kaen University Hospital.
I had great fun with the student doctors there today and i know that one or two will be waiting for my arrival tomorrow, scalpels at the ready. Bring it on!

Taking immune-suppressants make you very prone to skin cancers. I was also in the Gulf War (Kuwait) during the period of all the oil well fires. Living in that toxic crap doesn't do your skin any favors.
Actually, I have always been very healthy, although I did get hit by a train when I was 19. That laid me up in a hospital for about a month.
I've also been kicked by a horse, bitten twice by dogs, bitten 4 times by a black widow spider (she was in a sleeping bag with me), have had two bottles broken over my head, been stabbed once, and cut twice.
Not to mention the times I've been shot at (during war and growing up in a housing project), or have had guns pointed at me in anger (housing project).
I also traded punches with a 6'5", 330 lbs biker one night. I weighed about 175 lbs at the time. He dropped me like a sack of potatoes for the first 3 punches we traded (I can't believe how fast that big guy was, it turned out that he used to be an enforcer for the Outlaws MC.). On the fourth punch, I managed to block it with my left elbow and it still knocked me sideways about 4 feet.
I peed blood for 3 days afterward.
So you see, I have lived an interesting life.

My girlfriend loves everything at the beach, except the water, the sand, and the sun.
