Msg Does Cause Migraines, The Worst I Have Ever Had, Stopped When I Gave Up Chinese Food In The Uk 20 Years Ago.
Tell Panda That Pork Is Red Meat.
Interesting About Diabetics, As I Am One, When I Am In Thailand I Avoid Rich Thai Food And My Blood Levels Are Ok. Generally Eat Western Or Fresh Food Such As Salads And Fruit And As A Bonus My Weight Drops.
pork is now classified as a white meat due to modern breeding techniques
In fact the quality of locally grown meats has improved immensely and when compared to when I first arrived in Thailand.
Locally grown red meat in particular is very acceptable now and a fraction of the cost of imported steaks from Australia and the US.
Had an absolutely great silverside meal in of all places Pattaya last week.
Things are improving here and regarding sourcing quality farang style food.
Yep. Sticky rice (glutinous rice) is the staple for Isaan meal. No sugar.Originally Posted by jandajoy
Sticky rice you refer to is a dessert. Sticky rice (glutinous rice) with sugar and coconut milk. Normally served with mango.Originally Posted by Wally Dorian Raffles

Vendors here put formaldehyde on the fish to make it look fresh. Or at least that is what my missus has told me. You can tell by looking at the eyes and the gills. They also add sugar to a lot of the pineapple they sell on the street to make it sweeter.
i dont think they add sugar but it has a higher glycemic rating than normal rice, meaning its converted to simple sugars or some such in the body quicker and therefore fucks up diabetics, always puts me straight to sleepOriginally Posted by jandajoy
thai food aint that good for you, mainly coz they cook most of it in engine oil
palm oils which are bad for you, and there is far too much simple carbohydrate
often tastes good and there are of course healthy options
we won it at wemberlee
we on it in gay paree...
My mate in Pattaya (Simple Simon) has told me that over the last 10 years the grazing areas here have improved out of sight. He has also been involved regarding the correct butchering and after curing of meats. Taught a lot to the Thais and is involved with sorting out Tesco's kitchens.
Conditions where they are kept including the proper breeding of food beast has also improved. (Planting of natural grasses and food stuff etc)
Also the importation of favourable breeds has apparently improved the local stocks here.
Tried some water buffalo last week. Absolutely delicious and tender.
He (Simple Simon) producers some of the best meats I have tasted anywhere in the world and certainly this was not the case 5 years ago.
Put it down to farang technical transfer and know-how.
Still don't approve with how they achieve some meats and by force feeding and isolation though. Fcuking cruel if you ask me.![]()
Those of you who have had the dubious pleasure of working in West Africa can no doubt recall the local delicacy - Joljollo rice- a glutinous lump of rice , chopped green bananas and "bush meat" boiled in palm oil, drained and sprinkled with sugar.
gotta go lie down now - feel all queasy !![]()
Everything in moderation.
Yeah, I think a lot of sugar in Thai food isn't tasted. Same goes for sodium in foods. You can eat food loaded with sodium and not taste it.
I suppose if someone wants healthy Thai food, they can choose certain dishes and the way the are cooked and the ingredients will make it healthy or unhealthy.
............
I'm quite convinced they don't have adequate controls in place.
I was poisoned by an orange that i bought from Tesco Lotus, several months ago. There was a slight discolouring on one patch of the peel, but thinking nothing of it i peeled it and bit into one segment. The overpowering chemical taste caused me to spit it out and attempt to wash my mouth out with a nearby bottle of Leo.
About an hour or two later i began to feel increasingly ill, and spent the next twenty four hours in bed with nausea and stomach pains. The orange must have been absolutely loaded with some sort of pesticide.
It's made me quite wary of eating fruit here, because even if you can't taste it, you can't trust that they're not overdoing the use of these chemicals, and you can't be sure what sort of impact it will have on your long term health.
You should have stuck with the Leo mate. Another 10 - 15 bottles and you'd have been as right as rain.Originally Posted by Fast Eddie

MSG causes teeth problems as my friend found out, so when she is having a meal when she is out she says in Thai something something something ROT!! so that she has none in the food i can not remember the Thai. But we never use it at all.

An old Thai woman who is quite switched on, once replied to my question about pesticide free food in this manner:
No matter what you eat here in Thailand, it is going to kill you. So just eat whatever you like.
^^

No.. MSG doesn't affect the diabetics. anyway MSG is not good for your health if eat it for long time.
I hate it![/quote] also my wife does not like it, when I first came to Thailand I liked the food here but living here almost 20 years I hate it no variation in the resaurants like you can find in Europe I traveled South to North most menu's are the same and they got me many time's with the Tourista
MSg is not good for the body that's wy many years ago the Thai governement put a ban on it as I remember
It seems a lot of Thais get type II diabetes with age.
As a diabetis-sufferer and vegetarian, there is virtually no Thai food I can eat.
