Only few tables, just next to an Israeli that is nice as well with special seating on digged floor and cushions.
Quite nice food there, the best of Khao San, it's called the 'rainbow guesthouse', guesthouse upstairs and Indian below. The middle eastern place next door does some nice food too.

for the best head to Little India, few places there that serve very traditional Indian food including the famous Punjab Sweets. Very cheap, very nice food, but perhaps not the best place to take a date.

Dosa King on Sukhumvit Rd well worth a look too.
it's alright in there. stayed there a few times. very very basic, but the staff are nice and like you say good food. best thing about the israeli place next door is the shortcut past the muai thai gym and into rambutri . really like it round there. a lot more chilled than koh sarn but still plenty of people watching to be had.

No such thing as GOOD Indian Food. They put Currie in rice shells and Pig balls to make it edibile. How can anyone eat Indian Food?
Thai Food goes thru me like air thru a window, Indian and Paki food is much faster and more violent. I like asia but the food sucks.

Maybe the loose bowels are a side-effect of your psychotropic medications. Doesn't mean you should go off of them, but you might need to consult with your psychiatrist.

Had a rather good curry last night in Himali Cha Cha in Soi 31 Suk. All relative I suppose but in terms of Indian food generally and as an alternative to the ubiquity of typical Thai cuisine it hit the spot.

Not quite Penang standards but still acceptable and benefits from easy access to BTS et al.

I was back in the UK earlier on this year, talking to the owner of some excellent Indian restaurants he recommended the Himali Cha Cha as being the best Indian food in Bangkok? said it is where the Sikh community eat, i haven't had a chance to try it yet.
There are 3 branches, he recommended the one down by the river.

Is Punjabi food that good? I don't think I'd eat at restaurants with Sikh cooks if there were Southern Indian ones around.

i like good Indian food which rules out almost everything i have tried in Bangkok. i'm by no means an expert in Indian food but i've visited friends in Bombay a few times, and they know where to eat, so i'm spoiled (the crab at Trishna, by the way, is the best seafood i've ever had anywhere, although it may not be what most people think of as "Indian food").

in Bangkok, i've not been to too many places i've liked.. but that Rembrandt hotel buffet that's been mentioned is pretty good. the only other place i've been that i liked is Sharazad. it's more pan-middle-eastern than Indian per se, but they do have some pretty good northern dishes (i very much prefer southern Indian to northern, so that's saying something). a great place for a simple nan and daal. they have a mutton dish there that i like a lot but i don't know that it's Indian, although it's not too stylistically dissimilar. (called something poetic like "chunks of lamb"). it's on that Arab subsoi between Arab Nana and the soi with Dulliver's on it, i think it's Soi 5/1.

haven't tried Gaggan but sounds interesting, when i get around to it i'll post an impression.

any time you go to a new place it helps if you know someone who knows where to go. if you arrive in Manhattan and roll up to the first pizza parlor you see and order a slice, odds are it'll probably be fucking terrible. if you find a good one it'll be sublime (unless you hate pizza of course).

Well, you would think after 5 months of staying there I would've have found somewhere decent.
