used to go there quite often, quite nice

However I was recently told that the place has been going downhill, overpriced and not as good

so be prepared to spend 1,500 per head for average food,

apparently a lot of regulars have left,

Have never eaten there but been told that it is highly overated regarding food and price.

I have eaten in the Cherry's Restaurant on Pattaya Third Road opposite the X-cite Disco which was recommended as being as good as Manhattans, Brunos etc etc at only half the price.

There is a thread here on TD about Cherry's and I highly recommend the place.

It was not Texas, but it's about the best steak I've had in Thailand. Expensive but worth the price if you want a special evening.

Humbert: I hope Ruth Kris is coming here, that's about the best steak I've ever had.

I checked their website and found nothing about it but you never know. I never thought they would open a GAP here but they did so who knows?

indeed, but that's not surprising, expensive western food in third world countries is going to be as much if not more than it can be found over there

SteackHouse at the Marriott in Nana is about 2,000+ per head

Don't know if Ruth Chris is coming here or anything about Manhattans Steakhouse, but there is a fairly good place (good for Thailand standards) in Jomtien to eat a steak:

Jomtien Boathouse hotel wine and grill on Jomtien Beach in South Pattaya, Thailand

The Jomtien Boathouse is not cheap, but the food is decent.

    Looked cheap to me.

The excellent Steaks such as Sirloin are very good value at 325 baht and half a kilo of Rib Eye costs 250 baht. A huge platter of Surf and Turf with giant Tiger Prawns and Sirloin Steak costs 350 baht.

500 grams of Rib Eye for 250 has to be local beef.

I just don't know about whether it is Thai beef or not, but I think not........might be Thai beef, but I think it is too good for that.

They keep the steaks and prawns on ice out front and you can see "marbling." Normally Thai beef has no marbling or almost none.

If it is Thai beef they really know how to marinate it properly.

As an aside, one of the best things there is the Caesar salad and toasted bread...and BBQ ribs........and baked potato........and

The Rib Room at the Landmark in Bangkok is good. Expensive though, but it is hotel prices.

I haven't been back to Chokchai on Sukhumvit Soi 33 in a while. It used to be ok and relatively cheap. Local beef but good flavour.

You can't beat a good bit of Scotch Angus beef, grass fed and free range. Puts the US, Argentine and Aussie 'pen-fed' chemical tasting beef to absolute shame.

True, Years ago I would go to Ban Rai steakhouse in Chaing Mai. Their steaks were always tender yet it was just Thai beef. They had a marinade that included green papaya and they claimed that was how they did it.

My wife buys exclusively Thai Beef and I have no idea how she prepares it before final cooking but these are the best steaks I have had in Thailand.

Anyone who is down my way is welcome to sample her cooking as long as you bring the beer.

Local beef is pretty good and tender if you get the tenderloin.
