Oh yah, it is a "Bistro". Oh well, for beer, sports tube, good food and cheer, it is close enough from whence I come. Is there a difference between a Brit and an Aussie ?

I thought all Canadians would know that
Well, I am Alaskan, but we are the same as western Canadians, ie The Yukon. The Down Under has Cricket, whatever the hell that is. Sounds British to me
^ It was, but it's moved to Soi 23 now. Opposite the Offshore Bar.
Wheres the offshore bar?
and don't say soi 23.
If I am standing at the intersection of suk and asoke, ahead and to the left is cowboy....where do I go?

Ahead and to the left. It would do you goodOriginally Posted by MeMock
Lets say you cut through Soi Cowboy and don't get snagged, you get to the back side and that is Soi23 where you turn right and go 1/2 block and it is across the street across from that old Fish n' Chips shop that is on Nancy's Map. If you don't want to risk the dangers of Soi Cowboy you just go up Suk and turn left 1/2 block on yer right. Then after a few you can continue up Soi 23 to Cowboy and slip in the back door.
Cheers kevin.

I only remember the sunday lunch downstairs somewhere and oh my cod.
Has anyone been to this new place? The Duke Of Wellington Pub
I think I found it. Thank goodness i don't have to walk down that street called cowboy to get there
MeMock:Both Down Under's still exist. The one on Soi 23 I think was buying the other one but the deal fell through. I don't know but the story but let's say they are not friends. I have not been into the one on Soi 7.I thought that was on soi 7
Yes, probably the worst pub in the Silom area, with the possible exception of O'Reilys.
Beer is quite cheap, although fairly rubbish on the whole. Guinness is not kept well at all and has tasted off every time I've tried some. John Smiths - tasteless rubbish - and pints of Tiger & Heineken are your other main options, apart from the usual bottled stuff.
Food is poor, microwaved ready-meals for things like lasagne & cottage pie, or such culinary delights as a burger which is just a slab of overcooked meat between two baps and no other toppings.
The atmosphere is the worst thing about the place though. It's quite large but it's usually empty, so in a similar way to the Londoner, you really notice how empty the place is. The decor is sparse, and what's there is naff. And why are there about 40 barstools lined up facing a blank white wall along the corridor on the way to the gents?
On the plus side, they always do separate bills for everyone, whether you ask them to or not, meaning there are rarely any bill disputes. Also it's pretty cheap.
For atmosphere and a fun night out, though, you'd do much better to go to the Irish Xchange just down the road.
I went there twice last week but only to sit down for a rest, have a pint (85 baht) and read the paper before heading off so didn't really care for the atmosphere.
Seemed to be a few businessmen catching up for a drink, a few asians and a family from europe somewhere tucking into their burgers plus some young fella usuing the free wifi while nursing a beer.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.
Also, just to refer back to the original post, the British Club bar has been completely renovated recently. Last I went in there was the opening night, and the paint was still wet and the carpet not completely laid so was in no position to comment on how the new bar fairs up...
Old news now but I understand that Crawfords in Hua Hin has changed hands from one Scotsman to another. Not sure what that wil mean to the bar. Last time i was in just after the ownership change it was same same
I'll have to ask my Hua Hin correspondent.Originally Posted by Troubled
Does that include the one in Cha Am as well?

Sorry don't know
The Genesis bar at the end of Sukhumvit soi 11 is a top little bar to go to before heading to Q or Bed Supper Club that are just across the way.
Nice one! Not been there yet, but someone mentioned a "Pig and Whistle" just off Sukhumvit? Perhaps that needs adding to the list?
