Where to buy reconditioned Soft Drink Kegs?

Does anyone know where to buy second hand or reconditioned soft drink kegs in Bangkok?

I am looking for a system similar to the one in the photo.

Mr Pot has already kindly pointed me in the right direction, but the big drinks companies don't seem all that interested in just selling a couple of their old kegs.

They are used in the soda drinks machines you get in bars and 7/11 etc..

    Thanks

^ Real beer doesn't use gas to dispense it.

I'd not seen one of those for a while, we started selling in bottles but Hoegaarden beer now gets delivered in those style kegs. If you send me a pm on Wednesday when I'm in the office ill send you the contact details of one of the distributors at Brewberry. Not sure if they'd sell one or not but if your desperate you can give it a shot.

No, but nearly all homebrew kegs do.

Don't know about you but I can't finish off a hand pulled keg to myself in a couple of days either.

    Real Ales use gravity casks.

They still require gas to be injected from the top though, or the beer will stop flowing. The pressure in the head space will be the same, it's just on a bottom tap cask the beer will come straight out while on a top tap cask it will travel up 30cm of tube. If the pressure at the top diminishes both will stop working or in the case of the bottom tap casks, air bubbles might enter the cask and cause oxidation. The keg in the picture above works exactly the same except the CO2 supply is much better regulated.

    Hand pump?

Seriously, if you want to keep your homebrew for a while, bottles is the only way to go and adding CO2 will fuck up the taste and texture of a real ale.

Of course, if you're brewing that foreign rubbish, you can do what the hell you like with it.

If you use a hand pump like in a pub, you let normal air into the cask instead of CO2 to balance the pressure. The oxygen, bacteria and natural yeast spores in the air cause the beer to go off much quicker which is no good for home brew as I can't drink it quick enough.

The only way you could use a hand pump and keep the beer long enough would be to inject CO2 at atmospheric pressure at the same time as sucking beer out with a hand pump. With a little modification, you can actually do just that with the keg above.

Anyone else know where to buy those 19l kegs? TFP's contact doesn't seem interested either. No reply

Thanks for that link, I will get in contact with ecokeg.

I have found a place which sells them here now but they want 3500 baht for a second hand keg and 5000 baht for a regulator

I know you can get them in Singapore, but the postage makes it expensive to order overseas, ok for the disconnects though.

I generally brew with grain, I will be ordering Maris Otter from Singapore this time.

might be worth a call to pepsi and coke in thailand the kegs were used world wide till they brought in the syrup plastic bags in cartons, those kegs must have gone somewhere.
normal beer kegs can be adapted with the posts i have seen heaps here in oz just need a good man with a welder and a round seal so you can get in to clean them.

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but did you get anywhere with this? Also if you dont mind, i would be interested in getting the details of the place selling the second hand keg... i'd probably pay 3500b for one just to make life easier!
