She's still there and the food is great. Mrs. Balbir's would be the name.

On topic. Sizzler's Thailand sucks. Steak sucks, pork sucks, salad bar sucks, service sucks and the clientele sucks.

True Norton, its a sad commentary on life in rural Thailand that a visit to Sizzlers almost qualifies as fine dining.

Back where it all started. That place so many love to hate. Sizzler is a low-end, get a belly-full of food, cheap Kind of place. You get an all you can drink soft drink or iced tea, steam table food and salad for a few bucks, if you wanted a piece of rubberized chicken or a poor, pathetic piece of steak added to that you could have it for a few extra bucks.

Sizzler was a small notch above Burger King or Wendy's, a nothc below chain Pizza Joints. A place to take the kids when you didn;t have time to cook 'em a meal, a place for seniors on a budget to get cheap meal.

When I was younger we had these Smorgy Bob places, all you can eat buffet. They always ahd mashed potato and three kinds of gravy, couple kinds of meat and steam table veggies, salad too; basically a cafeteria. In my teens we'd hit the $2.95 'Special Lunch Buffet' try to break the bank we never expected top notch food, just to get a graoning belly full. Smoke a matchbox full of weed go in all jap-eyed and grinning, eat our way through an afternoon, service wasn;t an issue, there was none. You knew it was crap going in. You expected crap. You were not disappoinited.

You walk into a Sizzler back home, stand in line & placed your order, pay up front. Then they let you in the gate to overfill your salad bar plate(s) lap up your soft drink of choice and wait for the busboy/waitperson to bring anything else you may have ordered. Basically Sizzler took the cafeteria model added the bonus of a recently cooked piece of meat and took away the tray so you have to make five trips to the 'salad bar' instead of one.

I find the title of this thread laughable. Why anyone wold expect anything other than crap when going there is a mystery to me. This is fucking NEWS?? It is what the Sizzler business model is based on. Sizzler has always served crap, good for when you are hungry and damned near broke, or had a house full of kids to feed; little else.

They get out of the US and have fooled people into thinking they are more than that by adding a couple of "waiters" and eliminating the ticket booth? That Thai think it Hi-So? Goddam, people are sure gullible. Yes, Sizzler serves crap, always have always will.

Every western nation on the planet has got to have a cheap chain; where you get marginally edible food, served cheaply with few frills; or two. That Thailand chose Sizzler to elevate to some 'high-end' middle-class destination restaurant of choice is funny. That so many western folk here expect this marleting ploy to actually be of any substance is hilarious.

She relocated to a small soi not far from the stop back from Saphan Taksin on the skytrain. She had great Indian food.

You sure Nawty? Malaysian Aunties was on Soi 8. The one off Soi 11 is Mrs. Balbir's. They are both good so it matters not.

You must have chosen the wrong places to eat.

Indian food in Thailand is poor.
Agreed, most of it is but there are some good places out there.

My one and only trip to Sizzler was a magical experience. They were able to turn a baked potato, pork steak and salad into a pizza. Well, a pavement pizza.

In 5 months there, I occasionally had a decent meal, but I only once found a good curry.

The barbecued baby shark was the best thing I ate there.

FF, it isn't cheap for what it is. I don't go to Sizzler because it's a place where I have to pay at least 300 baht for shit salad, shit meat and shit carbs. If I'm gonna shit salad, shit meat and shit carbs then I'm not willing to pay more than 60 baht max for your typical Thai half hearted western food effort.

Apropos the Frazzled Frankie diatribe, I have to confess total ignorance of the Sizzler's origins and had assumed it was a Thai outfit and not a bastardised fast food outlet for the American diner wishing to trough on the cheap. As Scamp correctly emphasizes it is by no means a cheap meal here in Thailand.

Personally, I am not snobbish about food and will eat wherever and whenever the occasion calls including a McDonalds or Burgerking but PizzaLand type places are a definite no-no since messing with the pizza is an abomination too far.

Mrs Balbir's reputation is somewhat exaggerated and, if my last meal was anything to go by, ill deserved.

Yet to find a decent Indian in Bangers but the Rang Mahal is supposed to be well regarded?

Sizzler is the asshole of the cheap "Steak House" market where it got started. No matter what it plays up to be it is shit. I find it funny that they come over her and 'put on airs' you eat there once you should be able to identify it as another Thai-style marketing without substance kind of place.

Fool you once; shame on them, fool you twice?
I am never disappointed when going to sizzler. You gotta know what you're gonna get going in.

I want good food, I stay home.

Haven't been to a Sizzler in the US in many, many years. It had fairly good grub at a reasonable cost. Maybe the Sizzler's in the US have changed as well but the Thai version doesn't hold a candle to the Sizzler I remember in the US.

The Rang Mahal uses good quality ingredients, but it's as spicy as a glass of 7-Up. The chef is a nice bloke though.
