Tasty Yet Healthy Stuff to Throw In the Pot at MK Restaurant (about 200 baht)

Sure you can eat at MK Restaurant and pack a lot of calories and fat into you stomach which will result in an expanding waist line.

I have come up with a healthy choice of ingredients to throw in the pot and also some ways to make the food tasty.

For me, I just oder vegetables to keep the fat grams and the calories down. I always HATE vegetables growing up, but happen to love these and know how to flavor them up.

If you want more than just vegetables you can order Sarhai song kruang (pork sausage wrapped in sea weed or Ba bier sot (spring roll with crab nd sauce) and this will help to fill you up.

I order One plate - Chute Pak Lek (small vegetable plate) - this comes with an assortment of mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, small ear of corn, morning glory, green onions, plain and fried tofu, some noodles and some other green veggies.

The secret to making the whole thing tastier than it already is......

    1. Khing dong which is pickled ginger.

    2. Garlic and green chilies.

    3. Nam rat pet (This is the sauce that comes on top of the duck if you order it.

The ginger, garlic, green chilies are all free - no matter how much you use and the duck sauce is sometimes free and sometimes 5 baht or so.

Add the "secret" ingredients to the rice and then mix in the veggies as you eat the rice mixture.

if you do not get anything but vegetables, the meal figures out to around 450 calories each for two people.

If you are Smeg, you will be negative and complain as he did about MK before and say that it is not accurate because it depends on how much each person eats.

But those of us with just two or three brain cells know that you can estimate on how much each person eats and come close to figuring out your caloric intake!!

If you add in the pork sausage wrapped in seaweed and the spring rolls, then it goes up to about 680 calories per person.

Not bad for a filling delicious meal!!

Here's my standard order at MK:

    roasted duck
    green noodles with crispy garlic
    glass noodles
    egg
    shiitake mushrooms
    button mushrooms
those long little mushrooms in bunches - I think they're called enokitake
    crab balls
    pork/shrimp things wrapped in seaweed
    celery leaves
    morning glory leaves
    spinach (when available)
    cabbage leaves
any other green leafy vegetables going
the chilli/garlic/lemon stuff to spice up your dip with
possibly some fresh shrimps or slices of fish

    yum

If you have the discount card, frequent flier thingy, then the all veggie meal is about 200 baht. If you add the spring roll and sea weed sausage wrap, then it is about 260 baht.

not bad, and you also get some entertainment as the staff dances to the MK theme song. The waitresses were dancing behind me, so this is the best pic that I have!!

I never quite understand the popularity of MK, boiled food, not cheap.

I don't get it but no denying its popularity. Had a GF once that loved it, while I had to suffer, my wife thinks its crap, so I'm happy with that.

Small vegetable plate - about 120
1 plate of mushrooms about 35
1 plate of fried Tofu about 25
    Water 14 baht each - 28 baht

    about 200 with member card
with the spring roll and sausage wrapped in sea weed it is exactly 258 baht

I go 2 to 3 times a week for lunch and get the same thing.

^ Muppet. They give you chillis, garlic, lemon juice and suki sauce so you can spice it up yourself.

I only went to MK once, expensive and crap. If you are into that kind of thing then the BBQ type places are much better in my opinion.

Every damn time I take the extended group of my business partners to lunch, including the secretaries, they only want to go to MK.

Actually, I've grown to like it, but if I sit at the table with the really cute secretaries, they only want to eat veggies, so I have to choose between eye candy and hunger.

    Boiled veges.

    No, no, no, no, NO.

The duck and the ginger (without rice) is the only reason to go. Sometimes I do two plates of that.

I've always wondered at the point of a restaurant where you cook the food yourself.

I agree with MtD and the other detractors, especially the boiling water comment.

Mind you, I tend to avoid the chain type places because they are all mostly pish, and that includes Sizzler, Santa Fe and the Pizza places.
