    TGI Fridays - Bacolod Philippines

Well, today was the day!!!!!!!!! Not one but two exciting events transpired on this fine day.

    1. I finally got a haircut (the last one was Dec 19th)

    2. TGI Friday's finally opened!!!!!!!!!!!

For you beans for breakfast types, TGI Friday's is a chain of overpriced restaurant/bar kinds of places that infest America.

We previewed the menu where I noted the place serves the most expensive hamburger in the city. As today was its opening day, it was packed and we had to set at the bar with some of my old friends.

Notice the lack of Tanduay or Ginebra? I did as well and even got one of the bags the Crown Royal came with.

I had TGI Fridays own beer (a pilsner) and the star of the show, the 710P (457B/12.30 USD) TGI Friday's Signature Burger!

It was a bland burger, it didn't taste like it had been seasoned, it's definitely not worth the money.

My dearest had the BBQ chicken.

She didn't rate the chicken as anything worth the price, especially considering we can get a whole BBQ chicken here for 290P that's equally as good.

Overall, an overpriced experience that we'll not be repeating soon, but it was fun visiting a little slice of Americana.

    Good pics.

That chain always has you leaving with a kind of 'Oh well' feeling, though.

I have to admit, I never visited one in the US, it wasn't my kind of place. Here, it would be a fine place for a drinking session though. I will say too, the staff was great, both the servers and the managers.

...what about drinks prices?...It can't have been that only the food is overpriced...

I've eaten at a TGIF in Metro Manila, back when I worked there. I went there with friends. I think I had a pasta dish and a Coke. As I recall, the pasta dish was large & I shared it with a girl friend. Actually, she ordered another dish & we shared food. Among our group, I was the one who had the nearest birthday. My friends surprised me & arranged it with the staff. A group of them went to our table (complete with tambourines) and sang the happy birthday song. They also gave me a slice of cake - carrot cake, I think. I was pleasantly surprised, as I didn't know that the staff could do that. It's a good memory. But yeah, their food is overpriced.

Oh, it was expensive all around, Tom. A gin and tonic (Gilbey's) was 325. Normally it's between 150/200P at a restaurant/bar.

The bartender opened up a bottle of Patron gold, I bet as 500P a shot.

Here's another try at the menu...

That filipino distilled gin (Gilbey's I think) is definitely not the real deal.

I was in a tgif in Manila years ago and ordered a blooming onion and a beer can't remember what the onion cost but it sure was a good pub snack. Been hankering after one of them rascals for ages now but never see em on the menu, liked it so much I ordered another one. Gave me world class flatulence though. But that's the sorta thing you just gotta grin and bear it sometimes, TGI Fridays - Bacolod Philippines-68789t1-jpeg
By the way how's the great philipine onion famine going? Supply back to normal or are the prices still bringing a tear to everyone's eye?

TGIFs has certainly devolved from its heyday as the first “cruise bar.” The whole set up was the bar in the center of the restaurant and tables around so it was easy to walk around and see who all was there. Same set up was in Houlahan’s. Guess the world is not as sociable anymore.

Three, in four days, 20 years ago. It was greasy as hell, too. I only finished about 75% of it.

It's Ginebra, and you're right. Gibley's is a cheap American brand, I think.

We were ripped of by TGIF in BGC High Street a few years back.

We were walking by and saw they had a sign out saying beers were buy one, take one.

So we sat down and had quite a few beers, but when the bill came, there was only 1 free beer each.

They said the buy 1, take 1 was only for your first beer.

We checked the sign a second time, nowhere did it have anything saying that.

They refused to change the bill, so we've never been back since.

That Ginebra is dangerous shit. Love the label on the bottle though.

^^^that Ginebra gin is rough. I got a headache when I tried it. It's a cheap way to get drunk, though. Around 10 (?) yrs ago, Ginebra launched GSM blue, which is a more posh version, I think. It wasn't as rough as the original.

Gilbeys gin was good, as far as I recall. I used to drink it in a punch in my uni days - my mates were the ones who prepared it.

Nowadays, I prefer Tanduay rhum, either the brown one or the white (clear) one. I don't drink it pure - it's nice to mix with fruit juice. Hmm, I've been teetotal since this year, I think. Wasn't really in the mood to drink.

Too many things to choose from, tbh, and I wanted to try the most expensive burger in the city. The next time we go, it will be for the appetizers

I had some coworkers that had to visit a ship in Puerto Rico who used their seniority to cockblock me from the trip. As a token of forgiveness, one of them gave me a bottle of overproof rum. Not having a clue, I popped the bottle open and had a shot and decided I would never drink from that bottle again.

A couple of years later, I had a lady roommate with benefits sort of thing and one of the first things I told her was not to drink the rum, it's nasty stuff. About a month later, I get home from work and she's passed out on the kitchen floor with the bottle half empty. It gave me a chuckle, the silly bitch.
