Come on, a crappy sandwich with that tasteless laotian white bread can't really be declared good food. I eat better every lunch when I grab a decent sandwhich here, not to mention when going to a random restaurant.

    But my own ranking:
    1. Laab in any form
    2. Yam in any form
    3. Som Tam & Kaow Niaow
    4. Gaeng Kiew Wan (don't know how to spell it)
    5. Tom Yam

Very difficult to limit it to just 5, but here goes, in no particular order:

    1. Gaeng phet ped yang (grilled duck red curry)
    2. Som tam, Thai style not Lao style and with about 12-15 chillies in, served with sticky rice as opposed to those wierd "kanom jin" noodles.
    3. Khai Luuk kuey ("Son in law eggs", hard boiled eggs fried and then served with a kind of fragrant sweet chilli sauce. Sounds a bit odd perhaps but it's very nice)
    4. Gung Ob wun sen (prawns baked in glass noodles)
    5. Puu pad gaeng karee (crab fried in curry powder. Preferably not a whole crab, shell and all, because this it can be too messy and fiddly to eat).

But I could probably name at least 20 more tasty Thai dishes...
