I want to introduce my bird to the delights of traditional English food so was wondering if anyone can suggest a good Indian restaurant, ideally away from whoreville.

Sorry, I buggered up here. What do you consider "whoresville" in BKK?

I guess most Indian (Paki) restaurants are in or near to farang areas, or whoresville if you see it that way.

I also read somewhere that there are more Indian restaurants in the UK than in India, but most of them are also in farang areas.

most indian restaurants in bangkok are even filthier and more of a health hazard for the unaccustomed than the ones in india. the food being prepared by men rather than women.

those that like indian food recommend the restaurants in the pahurat area of bangkok, that's where the indian businesses and markets are to be found.

Unless it's in a 5 star hotel, she won't like it.
She will think the restaurant is dirty.
The staff are dirty.
The food is dirty.

Used to be a really good one years ago behind Nana Plaza, but that's in one of the OP's No-Fly zones.

Honestly can't understand the whore restriction. Really limiting.

Have to say, it is an up hill struggle getting a Thai lass to enjoy indian food. It can be done on rare occassions, but definately a struggle.

They are not normally keen on the smell of the food to start, and the oily "ghee" component in particular.

If she is not already open minded and tried a few foreign cuisines, OP will have a very sad time...

was Illuna on N Beach SF sadly gone or now
is the Plaza Tokyo or Chez J Pres De Gaulle's former chef a tastevin and chef sans pareils

^I've eaten there a few times as well - good chow. Even better as I was never the one picking up the tab.

I know that there is a good Indian restaurant in Soi 11 but not sure if it is the same one as Davis has recommended. It's not very far from Cheap Charlie's bar and on the other side of the road. It isn't cheap but the food is good. Generally, the food in the lower numbered sois of Sukhumwit is expensive and/or rubbish, I'm afraid.

There are two good ones on Soi 11, but Mrs. Balbir's I thought was better. I can't remember the name of the other one.

For no problems at all but at a very high price take her to Rang Mahal in the Rembrandt Hotel on Sukumvit 18. Nice high floor location, very hoity toity, but damn good northern Indian food. The do a brunch on Sundays. If she does not like the food, with the atmosphere, parking, then give up and do Isaan.

My wife looks forward to our occasional gastronomic foray into Saudi Pattaya. I haven't reached Indian with her in LoS, but she took to it in London.

Ha, I was sat next to my mate in Ubon airport when he asked me this exact question to give someone advice via instant message. I suggested Rang Mahal at the Rembrandt. He may have suggested Indus. I'm guessing that was you. What did you go for?

Yup. I would do it graduated. Meditteranian, middle eastern/greek, indian.
