    No kopi luwak, but I had some orange alcohol drink, siphoned out of a huge jar with a pickled crocodile inside in Indonesia once.

    I think Icelanders also like nothing better than burying raw fish for a few months until it is thoroughly rotted and then chucking it on a plate and expecting it to be viewed as food suitable for human consumption.

    possibly just as bad a delicacy up there in the arctic is a load of puffins stuffed into a seal skin bag and then consumed at leisure over the following winter months. the smell of decomposing puffins is quite horrific apparently making them an acquired taste.

    strange what the cold weather does to people up there.....

    I've had Japanese natto; it was utterly disgusting.

    I also had to drink something in Kunming one time where they slit a bat's throat and bled it into the glass with booze. That was not nice.

    i can only assume that impotency is prevalent in china by some of the concoctions they are prepared to eat and drink to get it up.

    I think it's something more like the fear of impotency. They are huge (lol) on anything that can be sold as an aphrodisiac.

    Exotic foods that I've eaten:

    Shark and sting ray and and octopus, pretty tame really compared to; Surstromming, the Swedish version of rotten herrings, eaten with knacka brod (hard bread) mashed potatoes and onions, washed down with schnapps. The stink is so bad that there's a law in Stockholm that you can't climb onto public transport after eating it.

    Rotten kina (sea urchin), the innards are taken from the shell and kept in a jar for a few days out in the sun until they're rotten, again, the stench will make you gag, but the taste is like a really good ripe cheese.

    Rotten corn, prepared by keeping corn in a bag under water in a creek until it goes off, delicious.

    Huhu grubs, similar to witchety grubs, taste like peanut butter, just quick fried in a pan until they straighten out.

    Moths.

    Possum, roast or done in a pressure cooker, also good tucker as are montain oysters.
    We'd collect them all along with the lambs tails at docking time, testicle stew and barbecued lambs tails for lunch break.

    Those dancing live shrimps are pretty good, with soy sauce and chili shook up in a covered bowl, great with whisky or a beer.

    Bamboo maggots and fried grasshoppers and really nice as are silkworms and ants eggs, or even the big slow fruit tree ants (tangy) or termites, caught as they swarm in the wet .

    Hegehog is quite good too, tastes a bit like beef, so do the little Maori rat. (illegal these days)
    Can't eat weka (bush hen)or pokako (swamp hen) any more either, but both were great in a stew.

    I did accidentally cook a hedgehog once, smelled quite good, didn't sample it though.

    The traditional gypsy way of baking hedgehog, pigeon, quail or trout was to wrap it in about a half of inch of clay, with a small round stone placed in its body cavity, before placing it in the hot embers of the fire for about half an hour to an hour or so. This method allowed you to skip the skinning gutting plucking scaling processes.
    The clay would bake the quills off the hedgehog, the scales off the fish, the feathers off the bird, and the stone in the animal's body cavity would heat up and cook the inside well, with all the guts sticking to the stone, which you threw away.
    A bit of wild thyme, mint or onion grass pushed in with the stone before wrapping it in clay was a proper added touch.

    I have heard of the gypsy clay method with hedgehog though was unaware of the use of the stone.

    I did once shoot a pigeon mid coitus and had it on the barbecue within 2 mins which i like to think added a certain quality to the meat.

    Yep, had it everyday when I traveled across Indo. The way they served it was 2 heaped table spoons of the coffee in a glass with boiling water and a heaped tablespoon of sugar. Let it settle and then drink it all apart from the sediment. (which I did a couple of times)

    Strong stuff that gives you a proper buzz. There was one morning where we had 2 cups and were giggling like little school girls.

    Gonna have a cup now.
