    Aquaculture in Thailand

Globally we are eating more fish than ever before and demand is growing.

With the world's ocean fishing stocks at breaking point and trawler fleets fishing further, longer and deeper, the only alternative is for Asian fish farms to fill the gap.

But with environmental and health controversies, 101 East asks, is fish farming the answer to the world's emptying oceans, or is this the end of the line?

This is something I looked into a few years ago and tried on a very small scale. A big advantage with aquaponics is the water savings, so my feelings are that it's most suited to places with warm weather, but little rain.

Australia is a good example. Water restrictions meant some ppl could no longer have veggie patches, so they took up aquaponics. It's really amazing how clever and resourceful ppl can be.

Another advantage doing it in Australia is you can get water tanks, blue barrels and old bathtubs cheap or free.

If you had the time and a little money, it could be a great hobby.

I built a water bottle tower growing system after seeing how to do it on YouTube. I used the nestles six litre water bottles and stacked them seven high. I was amazed just how easy it was and how quick they have started to grow. I have got right into gardening just lately since moving into the rented house after selling my house and land.
As well as the garden I built myself a drying cabinet so I can try my hand at some cured sausages and fish etc. Next on the list is a smoker.
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !
