    Soi dogs...

My travels recently took me to this location. While this photo may not look like much, it does represent much of how Thailand operates.

Let's take a look at this elderly Thai lady. Her chores last from sun up to sun down. Something she has been doing for the past 20 years. BTW, you are looking at her living room.

Always on guard with her bamboo stick!

This old lady will mix dried dog food with whatever to feed the dogs.

One can see this Thai lady truly loves her 'dek'.

In the background you can see where her drinking water comes from and her shower is.

This photo below shows where about 200-300 dogs are kept. The old lady is not certain of the exact number.

Believe me the racket was loud. I declined to venture inside the maze. Her problem? Since she lives on the outskirt of Miniburi, the many Muslims who live in the area hate the noise and constantly want to and do, kill the dogs. She as a devout Bhuddist does not believe in this.

Remember, a few months past when a soi dog attacked a young boy on Ram Intra? Well, the 'Thai officials' brought the 'ba' dog to this old lady. This dog lives somewhere inside...

What is your take on the Soi dog issue, HB.

Personally, I think they should be rounded up and destroyed. Or, if that's a bit extreme, at least make sure that they are all sterilised.

I often argue this with the wife. She likes to put out food on our sidewalk for the 'soi' dogs. Perhaps this is the Bhuddist way. When the neighbors found out we were going to visit the 'soi' dog lady they donated almost B700. Personally, we bought 2 big bags of dog food and gave the lady B1000.

My opinion? All we are doing by helping these 'soi' dogs is to prolong their miserable life. We adopted a 'soi' dog a few years ago. After the initial vet costs and intensive guard dog training, we now have a member of the family who protects us.
    *cough-cough*

Personally, this is my idea of the perfect 'soi' dog.

I will be getting a Staffy when I move permanently to my new house, as the soi dogs don't quite do it for me (ooo er missus). Only a year or so to go.

Not totally sure but I think it says something like

"If you want to get rid of a dog come and ask the guard or the owner of the house"

although I think some of the spelling is wrong and so I might be completely wrong.

They were born in Thailand and thus at least have a right to live here

The writer just did wrong space. It should be "ถ้าใครสงใสว่าขายหมา ให้มาถามยามหรือเจ้าของบ้า" which means "if anyone wonders that we sell dogs, please ask the house owner or the security guard".

I think the owner just wants to tell anyone that she loves dogs and her dogs are not for sale.

A true friend Smeg. He has met me at the gate with his tail wagging for 365 days times 15 years, anybody or anything ever do that for you?

    n. 1. A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.
    2. A person whom one knows; an acquaintance.
    3. A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; a comrade.
    4. One who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group, cause, or movement: friends of the clean air movement.
    5. Friend A member of the Society of Friends; a Quaker.

    You dirty bugger AO!

Word History: A friend is a lover, literally. The relationship between Latin amcus "friend" and am "I love" is clear, as is the relationship between Greek philos "friend" and phile

Yep, 15 years is a good innings for a canine.

I can't understand the mentality of people who dump dogs. Its commonplace in Thailand. Do these people not realise that cute little puppies grow?

GoW, this is my wife's view. Can you translate so no one will think i am trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes.
