So.. we have herd of wild Gaur (กระทิง) that comes to our property every evening. Year round, but they are more frequent in the dry season. They are somewhat destructive to the smaller trees we are growing (and any other crop the cousins might try to grow). I do not want to completely fence them out or take away anymore of their space or habitat than I need to. They can graze on most of our land..we like having wild animals if we can, trying to use our land as "habitat" as much as we can... but we have 3-4 rai total (split up in different parts of the property) we kind of want to keep them out of mostly. So my wife and I are trying to be creative. We will fence around the house and small yard. But for the other sections down the slope we want to keep them out of.. ??? what to do?
Anyway. my question is.. anybody have experience with them with something that works or have ideas what you think might work to scare them out of small areas of the property at night. My wife and I were thinking solar motion sensor lights (birght LED) on poles that would only trigger if they gaur came near. Thinking the light would scare them and keep them at least out of the lit areas. They can have their way on the rest of the property. I dont want lights on all the time.. not keen on unnecessary light pollution. Not any more than what i need. Some other locals use bright LED flood lights on all the time.. all night. But i do not like that idea. I want something more targeted.
Would this work? Other ideas? or is the only thing that will work going to be either electric fencing or very very secure wire fencing (trying to avoid this). ??
