    Turkey farming in Thailand

Next time i'm in Thailand i'm considering starting up an organic Turkey farm.

Build the coups and get them breeding and fed up for Christmas.

The MIL can feed them while we are in the UK and we can return early December to take care of business.

Then sell them to the Hotels in Bangkok at a premium.

Anyone got any experience in poultry farming, the pitfalls etc

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No experience in poultry farming so wondering what an organic turkey might be? Free range, no antibiotics or commercial feed?
A couple of house around here have a few around with their chickens.
In Oz and Canada always bought frozen Butterball turkeys seen 'em in Tesco here less than 100bt a kilo? The premium to hotels at Xmas would have to be pretty high, also don't think they would risk buying un inspected produce ....and that sounds expensive?

A good friend of mine who lives only a cows call from me who has spent the last 40 years or so with poultry of all descriptions including turkeys, says to treat it has a hobby and not a business, as all you will do if you are lucky is break even , and his words not mine ,trusting a Thai to take care of livestock especially Turkeys if you are away for any length of time is hardly a good idea .

After all the doom and gloom written about farming in Thailand someone thinks there's money to be made in turkey farming.

    Edit: 'Turkey' springs to mind.

Aunt bought 2 for my kids as pets, they had 7 chicks, big snake ate 6 of them.
There not good as pets, eat to much and I hope the snake gets the remaining 3.

Someone around here keeps turkeys. I haven't seen them but hear them. The kids in the area thought it was funny when they heard me call the turkeys and get a reply.

Turkey farming in Thailand, by a farang, is as sensible as a turkey voting for Xmas.

Try pimping instead - it's safer, more manageable and despite higher on costs it is quite profitable.

I see an American guy setup a profitable little pig/fish/rice farm with his extended Thai family near KK, he fed the pigs the ground rice which made their shit bright yellow and appetizing to the fish which grew fat eating it. He seemed to be doing well.

Sure - especially when there isn't a market for turkey consumption in Thailand [or Asia].

Nothing short of a dreamy novelty.

Awful story, gotta feel for the guy.

My plans are not that big, just a little experiment to make the in-laws a bit of cash in their old age.

Few coups and maybe 50 or so birds to start, then see how it pans out.
