Saw this just outside Pai by the side of the road .There did not seem to be any leaves ,just a stalk with a colored head.Picture to follow .

^ Ahh. I see. Thanks Pragmatic. That might explain the "stalk with a colored head" comment from the OP. Perhaps the colour was purple!
